I'm still holding out on LR6, but I will subscribe at some point. I know there are other options, but I'm too lazy (stupid!) to learn a different workflow.
That's the biggest nut to crack, especially if you (like me), had to transition from Aperture to LR. I don't enjoy doing another one. Given that LR still functions (other then the edit module), I'll keep using LR for now and then when 2018 rolls around replace it with a new work flow.

What that work flow will be, I have no idea. That's why I've been so hesitant to leave, Lightroom isn't a bad product, and the workflow was good, but pricing model (I don't want to keep giving Adobe money forever), lack of updates and their focus on the mobile market pushed me to make this decision.

My wants/needs are heavier DAM capability, then editing. I'm more about organizing my images, and then editing them as needed. I generally don't do too much editing so all the products out there have more then enough power and features for that. What's missing is the organizing aspect, sadly.

I do a fair amount of editing. I'd like the added functionality of PS but like you don't like the subscription model.
I don't pay anything monthly other than my phone (and that's a sim only deal I can stop any time), and my broadband.

But I can live with it I suppose. Subscription is the future.

If I use photoshop once a year, that's a lot ;)

I'm more of a hobbyist, I was more heavily involved in photography before my kids were born, but my life changed and things had to be pushed aside. I still enjoy photography but I'm more of a casual hobbyist at this point. I still want to take great pictures and have them organized but I find that I don't need much editing. Not because I'm taking great pictures but they're good enough for the intended purpose. I'm not trying to sound lazy but rather life is a balancing act and I have other constrains in my life and time.

Well having kids changes lots of things! But do makesure you keep taking their pictures until they get to the age when they don't let you.
I wish I had more of my daughter.

My photography is really all about taking pictures of them in all honesty. I used to take a lot more pictures of other things, but that's dropped off. I have less time to head off into the woods and take pictures of nature like I used too, I also had gotten into doing events for some people, that was cast aside due my schedule. Its more about picking and choosing when to take pictures and also doing it for the love of the art.

I first bought an annual fro B&H. After that was over it went to the monthly fee. I was okay with that until I tried to cancel a few months later and they wanted the termination fee. I thought it was month to month as billed. Nope. Why would I want a contract for software use? So I cancelled with two months left. They told me the termination fee was the same as keeping the program the last two months, why not keep it? Told them to take my $20 and shove it with their software.

Adobe software was reputedly the most pirated software on the planet at one stage so this pricing model has fixed that issue to a certain degree so they think it is a success.

True, but as someone who never pirated software, we all end up paying extra. Anyway still using my standalone LR software for now.
I have a NFR Capture One code, but haven't had had a chance to load it yet.
