I think they are really good. When I first saw PS CS3 i thought they were a placeholder, but now I know they are not, well I like them even more.

Their reasons are valid for doing this and by them not trying to make them stand out, they stand out in a different manner.

Anyway, I love them.
 
I can live with it. The CS2 icons drive me bonkers, with Illustrator and ImageReady having the same color scheme, but ImageReady and Photoshop both using feathers :p
 
Maybe they could work just a little harder on them. Round the corners slightly. Maybe add subtle graphics behind the letters to help us tell them apart.

I do like the color scheme idea though.
 
Honestly, the new icons don't bother me, but they don't impress me either. It seems that the company that makes the de-facto tools for imaging and press professionals could come up with something better, they just are completely uninspired.

because adding craptacular visual eyecandy is supposed to make them better somehow?

i quite like them, they are different enough and the letter combinations are much, much clearer than the flower/butterfly/feather they use now. it works much more systemically and the undertone of the periodic table as a connotative nod to these programs being the "elements" of design software is reasonably clever. i also think that they will clean up the dock by making it simpler and neater looking as well. the system is also nicely extensible.

i would like to see them get rid of the graphic elements and stay purely typographic as i think that would make it stronger as a whole.
 
Hmmm looks like Table of Elements to me but with Color Wheel used. Mehhh I can always change the icond if its too hard to decipher.

I like these icons better than the current ones, but they could have been better.

I'm generally a minimalist as well, but I just don't see these icons as being different enough when you have six or seven of them in the dock. I like the elements of design metaphor as well, I just don't think it's enough...they should also hint at the elements of the programs themselves.

And I'm not asking for "craptacular visual eyecandy". I want them to add very subtle hints (for example, maybe a subtle lens iris behind the "Ps" of Photoshop) to these icons, not animate them with dancing squirrels and disco Jesuses.
 
I believe Adobe achieved a functional design characteristic with these icons, which in turn is really what the CS3 is about. If I have 5-10 of these icons in my dock, I think it'll work very well for indentifiable purposes. We're all used to seeing the little .AI or .PSD icon design element on the current generation of CS files so it should have the same effect on the actual application icon - let's hope so anyway.

Graphically, I'm a bit bored with the concept. But afterall, they are just icons. I do, however, like how they've kept the colors somewhat consistant throughout the versions of the creative suite. Ex. Photoshop: blue, Dreamweaver: green, InDesign: pink. This feature also adds an identifiable trait to the icons, perhaps it will carry over to the file version as well.

I don't applaud the design, but I don't disapprove either. I'm just glad that the programs will finally run natively on my iMac!

But, if you're honest with yourself, doesn't a Jesus-as-portrayed-by-John-Travolta really sum up the core features of Photoshop? :D
 
I don't like them, and I don't hate them, but they sure do look goofy in the dock. It's like adding a pack of rainbow Starburst to your dock. Surely they could have come up with a better idea.

Maybe that's what the S stands for. Adobe Creative Starbusts 3, now in tropical flavors! :D
 
wow, those stink. oh well, if/when i get CS3, i'll get some new icons on interfaceLIFT. when do half of these even mean?

i really don't like them.
i like the CS2, and the round macromedia icons a lot better.
i like the fonts they used for macromedia,
but i guess since it's one nation under adobe they'll all be related..
 
CS2 had nicer icons.

Those are more "minimalistic" indeed, but it looks like someone really just wanted to make cheap looking icons lol.
 
I like the new look, can't wait to get some of those in my dock! Although it seems they changed Flex Builder from the current FX icon to FB
