Ps is a new app rather than a patch type updater. When you update you end up with both the previous version and the new one. Lr is a classic patch type updater. Both incorporate a new RAW processing engine.

My macOS updates went smoothly, but the new Ps version has been a bit of a headache for me. There have been changes to the behavior of the Transform and Crop tools. I've worked out the necessary changes is the keyboard modifiers to get my work with the Transform tool done, but I've yet to recover some lost functionality that I used with the Crop tool. I've also seen a rather annoying change in layer placement when using the "duplicate layer" function to copy between two separate images. Again, like the Crop tool, I haven't yet had time to beat the new Ps into submission.

Several other apps (Ai, Id, Br, Dw, and possibly others) are also new full replacement apps. I've not worked with Ai or Id yet, but I've found the Dw will take a little bit of work to adjust it to replicate my older UI arrangement. Br took a few minutes to rearrange as well. In general, the full replacement apps don't import your old configuration completely. From what I've seen, the critical stuff make the transition, but various UI issues need to be manually massaged.

Looking forward to the simplification of Content Aware Fill in Photoshop for commanding it to sample only certain areas! At the moment it's a bit of a pain to make it do that.

I wish Adobe Sensei were a “feature” that could be disabled entirely. Too bad, because it seems Adobe is pushing it on users in a major way.

That’s exactly what I use, but I also use LR for iOS and there doesn’t seem to be a way to completely disable Sensei on it.
That sucks...

Did you see that next year they are releasing a full version of Photoshop for the iPad? Not that I would ever edit an image to that extent on one, but it's a pretty impressive achievement to get there, I think.

Strange that they want to release Ps for iPad without first giving Lr CC all the feature capability in Lr Classic. Of course then they do that, likely that will be the end of Lr Classic.

Adobe’s got us all where the hair is short! They’re cranking out great product advances with no competition and no choice but to subscribe.

Agreed, I spent many months off the subscription trying to find a decent competitor. I failed completely, Capture One came the closest. I'm back on the subscription because Adobe does have a great product, even though I absolutely hate subscriptions

Not really that strange considering who Lightroom CC is aimed at... the Instagram audience. It's a dumbed down version, made specifically for the social media users.

It really bugs me that my Plugins don't get imported over when it puts the new app onto my machine. I have to go and copy/paste the plugins folder from the previous version to the new version. Am I missing something?

Thankfully, my editing panels go across seamlessly.

Really? Seemed to me the desktop Lr CC was more a version of old Lr Mobile. And quite good. Takes RAW photos, HEIC, does depth mapping, and some other nice stuff. And the iOS version shares to basically everything as every other iOS app does. Like Photos. I see the desktop CC version (which doesn't share to any social media accounts, IG being pretty much a mobile-only service) as simply a frontend to that.

All my Classic plugins are still there. Although I need to upgrade some to use them in the new version of Classic (mostly I think a license issue with Friedl's). Is your plugins folder in some non-standard location?

Oh well, that will teach me not to open my mouth based on very old information! I haven't looked at Lightroom CC since it was launched. Seems that both facebook & flickr are off limits nowadays from any desktop program exports. Shows that I don't use them that way! It looks like you have to go the extra step of getting the images from the cloud (Lightroom CC is cloud based storage) onto a mobile device to post from there, like you have had to do for Instagram for ages.

What I was meaning by my post was that it doesn't have all the features for more intensive editing built in that Lightroom Classic has & it's a lot simpler to use as a consequence. Hence the "dumbed down" comment.

Thanks for the update on the newer features added to it.

Just for clarification, can you guys confirm this update is for the standalone (non subscription, non cloud based) version of Lightroom, and does it work fully with OSX Mojave?

I haven't updated my Lightroom in a while because I'm scared I'll somehow get transferred over to the supcription model with no way to go back. And it seems my current version doesn't play well with Mojave, so I haven't updated to that either.

I'd really appreciate the help!

This update is for cc, not the standalone. It is my understanding that Adobe is no longer updating the standalone, version 6. May want to check your version to see which upgrade it is running, then Adobe’s site (usually under Support) to see what was the last/final upgrade.

Haven’t a clue, but probably not because I don’t mess about with things. My panels moved over, but not my plugins.

Thanks, that's what I thought too.
I guess the naming scheme is what still confuses me. Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC etc...
Overall it sounds like no Mojave for me. At least as long as I cling onto Lightroom.

Have you ever thought about signing up for the free 7 day trial of Lightroom Classic CC, letting it lapse, & using Adobe Camera Raw in conjunction with it?

I believe that you can still use Lightroom's Import & Library module for free & Adobe Camera Raw is basically identical to Lightroom's editing module & free to download from the Adobe site!

No, I have not, but I'll look into it.
I'm happy with the software I got now. It works. I'm not worried about future updates at this time.
But I'm looking at it from a Operating System point of view.
OS security updates are more important to me than feature updates in Lightroom.

I don't understand the naming of LR now. Why isn't the classic version considered the last stand alone app. The new online version should not be named classic.

Yeah. I thought "Photos" was a stupid name (kinda hard to search on it) but Lightroom Classic and Lightroom CC is even more idiotic. Source of constant confusion; the tech support folks probably wanna hang the marketing folks.

In any case, Classic is the local storage application, and CC is the mobile and cloud based application. The "new" desktop application is called "Adobe Lightroom CC." The old application, the successor to the standalone verions, is Classic.
