Same here, haven’t seen an ad on YouTube in years thanks to adblocker but seems like YouTube found a way to bypass adblocker? Adblock is clearly unable to block this new type of ad that appears on YouTube videos. I first noticed it yesterday when I went to watch a YouTube Video on my iMac

A quick update, I am still seeing ads on youtube in google chrome on OSX Mojave, The infamous Adblock extension doesn't seem to be able to blocks these new youtube ads, Anyone else? is the developer of Adblock aware of this issue? Adblock is clearly no longer effective in providing an ad free experience to youtube as it used to for years

If you're on Chrome/Edge, try Ublock Origin. If you're willing to do Safari, try Wipr. (it'd not free but cheap and efficient).

Apple made changes to Safari where ad blockers don't work nearly as well anymore. I suspect this was due to pressure from Google and other advertising companies. If you want to block ads use Firefox (owned by a non profit corp) and uBlock Origin. Ads on YouTube are blocked. Some sites won't work on it so for those you can use Safari.

I don't have a mac at the moment (Waiting for new iMac release), but I second this. I had the same problem with Chrome on PC and switched to Firefox. Zero Ads using Firefox and I don't notice the browser being any different from the Chrome browser experience. I use multiple blockers as well (Just to be sure)- AdBlock, a pop up blocker, AdGuard AdBlocker, and Ghostery.

Adblock used to provide a PRISTINE ad free browsing experience for years in google chrome on the Mac and is considered the best Adblocking solution, with that being said, this new type of youtube ad that we are describing in this thread have only started appearing out of nowhere in the beginning of youtube videos in the last 2 weeks or so and it seems like YouTube somehow managed to create an Ad that bypasses all the measures that Adblock used to this day to block in-video ads.

I haven't seen any ads on Firefox yet.

It is possible to stop ads with YT premium. You can subscribe in rupees and it is very cheap.

Nope, the blank ad still comes up on every YouTube video I watch on my iMac using google chrome. Adblock seems to be unable to stop these ads (technically it’s stopping it because I don’t see an “ad” I just see a white blank screen at the beginning of every video I try to watch with a small circular spinning timer showing the duration of the ad) but it’s extremely annoying non the less I can’t believe Adblock didn’t release and update to counter this change yet

That sounds very entitled to be honest. How much did you pay for the extension?

Now consider that before getting all needy.

You may think this is easy, but stuff like this is not. You’re constantly fighting the other guys trying to find ways around their systems. And that can take time.

There are countless Adblock extensions out there and i expect the Adblock extension that claims to be "#1" on the Google chrome store with quotes such as "Best ad blocker" and "AdBlock is the best ad blocker with over 60 million users, and one of the most popular Chrome extensions with over 350 million downloads!" to block all ads that is claims to block properly without any issues as it has done for years to date.

what is Lockdown?

and PIA?

Private Internet Access is a VPN. Lockdown is free.

You paid $0.00 for this and you’re complaining?

Like to see you do better...

You clearly hijacked this thread for the wrong reason.. Are you bored or something? if a Google Chrome extension such as Adblock that claims to do a task (in this case, Block ADS) fails to do so as advertised then it is nothing short of MISLEADING. Period.

Never have i said anything about not appreciating the developer team behind Adblock, the main reason for this thread was to bring awareness to the community about this new type of "annoyance" that is visible on youtube videos as of last month.
