I faced this same quandary at Christmas; my 2017 Pro 10.5 looked/felt a bit dated but I knew 11” will prolly get XDR mini-led display in 2022. Went ahead and got the 2021 Pro 11 and am completely happy with it. Had read through these threads and decided I don’t want to deal with any blooming issue (for pro prices screen should be issue-free IMO) so I just saved some $$ at Black Friday on 2021. This model will serve me well until they implement OLED or some other compelling features on pro models. I don’t care about wireless charging and am not seeing the benefit of a glass back. M1 processor is great, at this point way too capable for iPad OS as it stands, so I don’t see need to wait for M2.

I got a ZUGU case this time and it’s my favorite iPad case functionally ever. I’ve always been a Moshi versacover fan but I ordered both and sent Moshi back bc ZUGU is perfect. Will prolly install tempered glass screen protector when spring arrives bc we spend lots of summer at coastal location and sand seems to find my devices, even indoors.

I always advise to buy now with no regrets. Enjoy it today.

I have a Paperlike on mine. I use the pencil a lot to write notes and draw dimensions of houses(I'm a Realtor). I like the feel it gives when using the pencil. But I do understand not everyone likes them. Very subjective thing these screen protectors. If you have a protective case and don't care one way or the other about the writing experience, a protector probably is not needed.
I have an ESR one on mine & am very happy with it & just gives that bit extra protectio.
