if you want to stick to mac you can make a hack, it'll be faster and cheaper.
but you will be your own tech support.

you can DIY make a win box but if your a pro you may just want to get someone to do it for you.
(who knows what there doing :p)

iv not used a pc and only know pungent from there cool articles on software https://www.pugetsystems.com/all_articles.php thanks to them we know adobe still cant use more than 4-6 cores even in a lot of video tasks
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...o-CC-2015-Multi-Core-Performance-Update1-806/
thats flat lineing returns :p

so look at the apps you use, and get a computer made for the task you need dont let some one sell you a 28core cpu for say premier when your not going to use more than 6 cores most the time

I'm making the switch too. I just sold my 12 core 5,1 Mac Pro while I could still get some money out of it. Building my own computer scares me. I went with Xidax dot com. They don't have computers with Xeon processors, but they do have a 10 core i7 rig. I didn't need that kind of power so I'm ordering a 4 core. What was attractive to me was the lifetime parts and labor guarantee.

I've just signed up to add my experiences of switching.
I'm a commercial photographer and have used macs since the start of my career in the mid 90's, £3000 for the base Mac Pro, no thank you.

I've never used a PC until a couple of weeks ago, I built my own (it's really not that difficult, if you played with lego and Meccano as a child you will be fine.) https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/ was a good source of help, just to check it would all work. Everything you need comes with the parts, except one of those static wrist bands.

Took me about a day, hardest thing was getting Windows 10 installed, I downloaded it and trying to get a bootable flash stick to work was a bit of a challenge without a PC. It took me about 2-3 hours of Googling....Bootcamp assistant was the solution just in case anyone is struggling with that bit, or just buy the Windows pre installed flash drive, bit easier..I must be very lucky, haven't had one problem since I first switched it on.

Only mistake is not realising my Thunderbolt drives are not backwards compatible, mine are V2 and they won't run without a stupidly expensive 2-3 adapter (£90ish.) I can't seem to find, even if they exist at a reasonable price, a thunderbolt to USB cable..Anyone help here, I've fitted a Thunderbolt expansion card not realising it's V3 only, oh well..

The speed differences are below, cost of the PC was around £1600, Mac Pro was a £3000 D300 with 32gb RAM.

Still getting my head around Windows 10, you have to embrace it and not try to do everything as a Mac.
For my job it's so far perfect and for the first time ever I'll be able to easily upgrade a bit a a time. Not having to buy a whole new computer every few years will really help the cashflow.

This is key. I've found those who expect Windows to be macOS (and vice versa) get frustrated and have a negative experience. Those who learn each OS tend to have positive experiences.

That's a mighty fine computer that you built. I can't believe you got a GTX 1070! Nice!

Congratulations on the new build. :)
