The police won't care and Gumtree, being what it is, probably won't either. But since it's high spec you should get at least £200 back on eBay. Just learn your lesson from this and remember to check these things very carefully in the future. If you need to, meet with the seller in a phone shop so you can compare what he's selling with the display phones to make sure it's legit.

To be fair, the heart rate sensor doesn't work on the actual GS5 either :p

Good idea about meeting in a phone shop.

If the guy refuses then you know something's wrong.

Great way to avoid scammers.

We have gumtree in Australia too OP. It's good for selling as there is no fees. I sold a iMac and iPhone with no problems, both buyers came to my house and paid cash.
Buying though I nearly got done, I arranged to meet a seller at McDonald's car park to buy a iphone, waited 10 mins sent message they said they would be 10 mins, I waited another 30 mins then left. I got a message the next day saying phone was faulty and they swapped it or something. I would of just payed cash and left so was lucky.
Then I arranged another one, seller pulls out as they got offer for $30 more but that buyer is a no show, get message next night saying I can have it. I already went a bought a brand new one.
It's easily done.
My only ripoff off eBay was a lifeproof cas but should of known a fake as it was so cheap.

I have seen those knock offs online, they look like the real thing in pics. How did you know it was fake?

It was a couple of years ago now, I think the screen and how it went together and the charge port didn't line up. I contacted the seller and they owned up and gave me a refund, and asked me not to leave bad feedback. All the packaging was like original.
