It's Me, The GT40 Guy . . . .

Greetings to all,

I discovered this thread quite by accident, and read each post with great interest. I must say that all of the participants provided a high level of decent intelligent discussion of the topic; a circumstance not often present on many forums.

I would have, if only possible, awarded one member with a trophy for the most clever and best idea: The award goes to –hh, who correctly (I believe) suggested: “I think a fair trade would be a ride in the car. :D

Sometimes accidently, facts get misstated or omitted. I sensed some disappointment about my using the subject photos without including a mention. I would be more than happy to add a mention if the text of such mention is provided to me. I assumed that the photographer would supply the text intended as a mention. I noted the watermarks on each photo stated PUCKMAN, but no text was provided, text such as Photos by ???, or Photos by ??? Photography Company, etc.

I knew this person’s real name from the email sent to me. However, I was not inclined to post that name because even on this forum the real name was not used. It would have been an oddity to post PUCKMAN again as a mention since that name appeared on each photo via the watermark.

"Hello Robert,

I received your request on the POTN forums for permission to use my photo(s) of the GT40 on your website (which I checked out and thoroughly enjoyed, by the way).

I actually have several pics of your car, from different angles, etc.
I would be more than happy to share those with you and give permission for you to use them on your website, as long as you're ok with a small watermark in the photo and a small credit mention.

Please let me know if that works for you, and if you would like to see the rest of the photos of your car that I have.
Sincerely,

Additionally, my car was referred to as a Replica, which is not the fact. My car is a licensed GT40 Continuation car made by the only company licensed to make GT40s and has owned the GT40 name-style for decades (Ford does not own that name anymore). Think of it this way, all of you expressed the desire to have proper credit for your artwork and photos. I too desire my car to have the correct credit it deserves. I did write a very short article explaining that subject: replicas, kit cars, and REAL CONTINUATION cars.

Anyway, I too have been creating both still and video images for decades. My most recent short film can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDWL8Ny2uOQ

So, as stated, I did enjoy all of your well stated thoughts and ideas on rights and responsibilities of the art and images we all create.

I am willing to give a ride to the subject photographer as an expression of my appreciation of the artful images created.

Thank you again for allowing me to express my opinions and ideas on your forum.

A happy New year to all, Robert

I just saw this today.

Hi Robert,

There was absolutely no "disappointment" in your using my photos. I was (and still am) happy to share them with you and assumed you were going to use them as provided (meaning with the watermark). I did not request any additional credit or anything.
I never did see them on your GT's website, so I assumed you ended up not using them (although I haven't checked recently).
I'll have to check again.

The rest of the discussion here was mostly academic, as I was trying to understand what the common practice is for these kinds of things. And various people were expressing their opinions on the matter.

PS: I think I spotted your GT on the Tour De Orange yesterday! Unfortunately, it passed by before I could snap a shot of it.
