Personally would not buy RAM from OWC, but price is only one factor. There are reports that OWC has been caught selling used/buyback RAM modules as "NEW" modules. If this truly matters for real world usage can be up for debate, but it is shady practice to be selling these as anything other than USED or REFURBISHED modules.

Never had issues with OWC, it’s too bad if they are doing this as you mentioned.
My only issue is that their prices are high and wonder if there is a reason to pay that premium.

Some of their products are great, but personally would avoid their RAM because of this. If they were just honest and sold as refurbished/used it would not be an issue. Transparency goes a long way and getting caught in that was enough to add doubt for many on this forum. Also would avoid their SATA SSDs. Can get better prices, warranties and in some cases better performance elsewhere.

From MP1,1>MP5,1 days I've only had one stick of RAM go bad on my personal machine. (Client machines have had a few failed modules, but not more than a handful.) Every machine I've used personally or in a client's office has been upgraded with 3rd party RAM modules. Maybe I'm lucky at the limited failures? If warranty is important to you, suggest buying directly from someone who offers lifetime or 10 year.

Samsung modules labeled as Cisco server pulls have been great with my dual 3.46 upgraded MP5,1. Got them at a fantastic price and the "risk" of no warranty is fine for me given this machine's age. Specs of the 128GB I'm using right now are in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/upgrading-a-mac-pro-4-1.2117587/page-2#post-26063061

Side note, look into Render Garden for After Effects to take advantage of all of the processors/cores.

I’d rec a Vega graphics card with external PSU for stability and Mojave compatibility’s

I see you live in La Jolla. I’m in LA. I’ve gotten four used Mac Pros from this guy Dustin, and he could get you a good deal on RAM, etc. His email address is dvsatty@gmail.com.
