Ok, now that I reinstalled SL, how should I do the updates? Should I just keep hitting software update or should I download and install the combo update?

Just use Software Update as it gives you all possible updates

so the combo update does not? Just trying to learn what the difference is. So the combo only updates the OSX but software update updates OSX and then some?

Yes. Combo update is only for OS X. Apps still need separate updates and the easiest way to get them is through Software Update

Understood, however, the view that the combo update is better for the system is subjective?

Well, if you're going from 10.6 to 10.6.4, it will anyway be a combo update. The function of combo update is that it has all the previous updates in it so you can go from e.g. 10.6.1 to 10.6.4. With normal updates, you would have to install 10.6.2 first and then 10.6.3 etcetc... Software Update knows what's the best for your Mac

Ok, thanks for making this forum work as it's suppose to work. :) I'm going with the regular update then. Thanks.
