age of empires 2 on the mac

No idea, here.

Same LAN game problem using MBP early 2007 edition with 10.5.5 and iMac 2008 with 10.5.4. iMac Host usually gets flash to desktop then back to game main menu with timeout error dialog, but sometimes sees the game. MBP sees game always. When game is seen on either machine the cursor can still move but nothing can be selected and keyboard does not work in game.
 
I used to get consistent "out-of-sync" errors after 45 mins of game time. Since the new Wireless-N router, that has stopped. But I'm still not able to reload saved multiplayer LAN games.
 
ok im still getting the error about switching to 800x600... Ive tried every single combination.. i'm not sure i loaded the 1.0.6 update correctly.. i used to get an error about cant find readme file but that doesnt happen anymore.. I am using a macbook and cant figure this all out. anyone have any ideas?

Hey Guys,

We had the same problems with syncing when going to 3 macs playing networked and using the gold pack. After a lot of trial and error we switched from wifi to wired networking which bought us some time before sync problems, then forced the game to run in 256 colours, then reduced the number of AI players so one slot was empty.

Problem solved, hope it helps.

First my English very bad, because of this apology because of it.
I'm Hungarian.

I would need your help!
I would like to be played with a friend of mine through a network.
He has pc, and i have mac.
I installed it the Age of Empires Gold edition, works fine, but there is not local connection there for me when I go into the multiplayer, than for him,
because of this when he is host a game, I see nothing then.
And the same one reversely true.

I hope for it myself expressed it understandably.
What should I make?

Hello there!

First of all, I assume both of you are running Windows? Because if you have the Mac version and he has the PC version, then unfortunately I must tell you that the Mac version and the PC version are incompatible. Extremely stupid and annoying, but the truth.

If both of you are running Windows, then the most likely problem is your firewall. I have played AoE2 and AoE3 many many times, and find I always need to turn off my firewall to get it to work.

Ah yes the annoying rehost after out of sync error problem!
Even with the update I've been getting this as well, I find that the hosting mac should be connected using Ethernet, it doesn't matter what the others are using.

I'd hate it after playing hours of a game we would be unable to restore :(
 
AOE update 1.06 works but...

The update works but once i start playing i cant see anything but the ground the people buildings tree etc.. are all invisible. does anyone know whats wrong?

All units and buildings in my game are invisible.

Cause: The game installation is corrupt.

Resolution: Drag your current Age of Empires II Gold folder to the trash and empty the trash. Next, open the CD and drag the Age of Empires II folder from the CD to the hard drive and let all the files copy. After it has finished copying, install the 1.05 update.

Ive downloaded a zip file which done F**K all, the resolution message came up tried changing,,,,nothing happened, i got mac osx 10. whatever, and im totally bamboozled please please please HELP!!! i also try downloading demos from the apple site and nowt happens there either whats going on??:confused:

I am running AOE2 on my MacBook and I can't figure out how to set up the ports so I can play online using GameRanger. Anybody know how to make this work using an Airport Extreme?
 
maybe it's just me, but this game is now broken under snow leopard. all i get is messed up graphics.
 
First, I would like to say that this post was instrumental in getting me to the point that I am at, so thanks to everyone who offered advice (I had the same Drawsprocket problem). Now, though, I'm afraid I have a different problem...

I installed Age of Empires II for Mac on my Macbook (10.5.8) today, and I downloaded and installed the 1.0.6 patch to enable it to run, but while that allowed the game to start, I still cannot even get to the main game menu. Whenever I launch the game, after the introductory movie, the game turns off and states (multiple times) that "A required file could not be found. Please re-install Age of Empires II." I re-installed it (and the patch), but this did not solve the problem. The files that I'm told cannot be found are as follows:

sounds_x1.drs
gamedata_x1.drs
gamedata_x1_p1.drs
sounds.drs
graphics.drs
terrain.drs
interfac.drs
gamedata.drs

After going through all of those error messages, another error message pops up:

"Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw.
Error"

After this the game quits. I don't understand it--this is a new game, fresh out of the box. What in the world is going on, and how do I fix it?

Edit: Never mind, I figured out what the problem was. I had installed the game on my external hard drive in order to save space on my computer, but that apparently does not work. It's working now that I moved it to the computer itself.

If that doesn't work, try other options to do with the display such as "Don't switch screen resolution for movies" and "Don't play startup movies"

your link is a dud, it may have worked before, but it didn't work for me. so I found this one. and I have mac OS 10.5.8 and the game works for me. http://destineergames.com/support/?page_id=35
