So this means that if I update right now to 2.2, (I am running on 2.1 unlocked now) my phone will still be unlocked, not jailbroken, Which is exactly what I want. I was under the impression that the 2.2 updated all basebands.

The baseband update only applies to the 3G. If you have a first gen, no worries.

That is correct. I did that to my first gen. Just upgraded and was still unlocked but had to re jailbreak. But then i used the dev team download for quickpwn to re jailbreak and ran into trouble and ended up restoring.
Finally downloaded the quickpwn from iclarified and it went fast and smooth.
May not happen to you if you re jailbreak if you use dev team's torrent download. Just sayin iclarified worked for me.
