any particular reason why there are such conflicting experiences with AIM? Different versions running on different hardware?

I don't know, probably just luck of the draw. It doesn't matter though, the only important thing is that iChat and Adium are both better than AIM. I personally use iChat mostly cuz I like the interface, but I would use Adium over AIM any day if iChat didn't exist.

Meh.

To me, iChat isn't all that user friendly.

Well since iChat incorportates AIM access, it seems like the best of both worlds to me....

After using the Official AIM client for a couple of days, I have to say I like iChat way better. It's so much nicer looking and easier to use.

The reason why I dislike using iChat is probably because I haven't spent enough time getting used to the interface. AIM was very easy for me (just like the Windows version), and I just got frustrated using iChat (is there any way I can "group" people into different categories like on AIM?)

Granted, iChat looks much more attractive, but I'm pretty content with using AIM for now.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever use the AIM client for OSX hell even the one for OS9. They're HORRIBLE. I've never seen a piece of software crash that much ever.

Not only is ALL AOL s/w buggy, it will spread tons of crap throughout your HD, and it could take you weeks/months/years to find and remove..........

I recently helped a friend fix his G4, and in 4 days time, ended up deleting over 2GB of just AOL/AIM crapola :(

Why we hate AIM... because it lacks features its Windows counterpart has had in so many past versions. Because it hasn't been updated in 2 years(more or less). Because the interface lacks what on Adium is customizable. sure it might not crash, but for me, adium is just that much better.

I use AIM for MAC all the time, just when u dowload make sure you get the ver 4.7 its the older one but it say like "For Mac" works great!

Why can't I view webcams on AIM 4.7 for mac?

Everyone who has AIM(windows) says when they try to have me view cam, message says I don't have video capabilities. I know I don't have a video button either. Just wondering. Thanks!
