Air refresh

I'm hearing rumors of a Macbook Air refresh in June and I just got mine in January!! If they do switch from Core 2 Duo to Sandy Bridge and thunderbolt shouldn't they offer some kind of sweet trade in deal for people that have only had there systems for 6months or something. Anybody else feeling this way?

Well, I don't know.

However, to ease your conscience, there are a couple of people who believe that the 2011 mba is going to suck compared to the one of 2010 *cough* Scottsdale *cough*.

But I don't know, say you turned in your old MBA, would Apple get to sell it again, seeing as there would now be a newer version that isn't used already.

For some reason I hope not, 'cause I like to rub it in, also, the MBA you already got is sweet, so you should just be happy with what you got.

It sounds like there is going to be a tradeoff with the new MBA, better processor but instead a worse graphics processing unit, and some arguing that it would be a huge hit in graphics performance, and some arguing it might not be there at all or only slightly.

But yeah, at least you're not like my friend from school, who bought the new MBP 1 week before the 2011 version came out :p

Your friend from school didnt use his brain to return the old mpb? He was still within the 14 days. I read apple let you return them even if youd bought them within 1 month....

as for OP, the current gen MBA came out in 10/10. You got yours 3 months after it was released. If it comes out in june, all people who got theirs in the previous 6 months should get a discount? I don't think thats the reason apple is making so much money...

Well, I guess we're not that much into "scamming" the companies we buy from over here in Denmark :p - Although it does sound reasonable enough.

I'm from Copenhagen, Denmark and I bought the iMac 27 Ultimate 8-10 weeks before rumors said the refresh would be here. Kept it for 2 weeks then called Apple and returned it.

Told the TNT guys who should take care of the return that I had to find a new date for the return of my iMac.
Then also postponed that date.

Ended up using it for 6 weeks before I finally returned it :)

Now I have just bought the 2011 iMac Ultimate 27 :apple:

You only have the 2 week return right if you buy online, so always buy apple stuff online for that reason alone !!!

So some of us danish Vikings do know the rules and do bend them to our advantage ;)

Nothing wrong with that since that is what Apple do when they sell the old iMac for the same price on day 1 and on day 364 - 1 hour before the update is coming - nothing wrong with that, just part of the game :)

If you think there will be some type of sweet deal for people who bought an MBA within the last 6 months you have not been around this hobby/industry very long...

I just bought my MBA 3 weeks ago and I expect no "sweet deal"....I will put my unit on ebay and take the $$ hit if I decide to get a new one...but at this time, I see no reason to upgrade, based on my needs, the current MBA works great.

I do certainly not feel that way. I bought my Air 4 months ago, and not even an octo-core-Air with ThunderBolt and 32 gigs of RAM can put me in buyer's remorse... from which you seem to suffer already, btw.

Your computer was worth the price when you bought it, wasn't it? Otherwise you wouldn't have purchased it, would you? Be happy for what you've got.

No.

But you do have a nice computer there, so until it no longer does what you want it to do, why fret about upgrading? There will always be a newer / better product around the corner.

Best buy does computer buy back programs. Buy your next one there and pay for the service.

Make sure you know when an update is before you buy, especially if your going to get frustrated, and believe you deserve discounts, which I dont think will happen with Apple. Enjoy what you got, which is a great machine, and that's why you bought it . :)

Golden rule - if you're obsessed with the newest of the new, or want the most bang for your buck, buy within a couple of months of a refresh. I'm in the most bang for your buck category so always buy within a couple of months of refresh and keep it for 3+ years, or a little earlier if the latest models have must have attractive features beyond mere spec bumps.

Hence my white '06 Macbook was replaced by a late '08 15" MBP, still going strong. CPU jump? Hardly earth shattering, but higher res screen, glass trackpad, unibody frame, backlit keyboard made it all worthwhile. Plus, at the time, I had no gaming pc so the 9600 was adequate for reasonable pc gaming - and an EPIC leap from the tragic Intel GMA lol! Point being, unless you're constantly running at full load and have money to burn, year to year upgrades are an utter waste of money.

My 11" ultimate is a fantastic ultra-portable, the only thing that'd make me upgrade would be double battery life, which plainly 'aint gonna happen.

I just don't get this. You KNOW going in that EVERY mac computer is updated every 9 to 10 months or so. So to buy one 3 or 4 months after a product release, then get miffed 5 months later when a new one is released ... that's just moronic.

Use the damn thing and quit worrying about what the 'new' thing is ... or go get the new thing and sell your old one on ebay.

That's the way this works. Deal with it.

Apple loves the 'I gotta have the latest" and is what driven their stock to 350 or so.

I also love it, as I bought that stock early. So please go get the newest MBA even though your old one works fine, make sure you buy all the ipad2 covers in all the colors ("collect them all" acc to apple,LOL) and get ready to sell your phone for a marginally improved one in September.

I chuckle every time I see a pic of a line outside an apple store for stuff - please keep it up!
