What does this solve?
This is a genuine question.

In 59 years I have lost my wallet exactly 1 (one) time. That was 40 years ago…

Do people genuinely lose/get stolen their wallets this often? 🤨
Sample of 1 is not a good statistical representation. LOL

I've been waiting for this for what seems to be years. Happy to contribute to the Kickstarter and get this in my hands (and wallet).

Cool idea but the battery life subscription model reminds me of what Tile had and I hated that.

I will stick with the AirTag in my change purse.

Also, I’m wondering how durable this card is if you sit in or drop it.

Why, why, why?? 🤦‍♂️ An iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe works brilliantly. It natively supports Find My. Who is buying these Kickstarters? (insert Office Space 'jump to conclusion mat' reference here)

IMO, there's no reason to carry around a bulky wallet these days. As a backup, I keep (2) credit cards and my driver's license in an iPhone Wallet w/ MagSafe. All three of the physical cards are also in the iPhone's Wallet app, plus all my other cards, or I just snap a photo of it (think insurance card, passport, SS card, etc.) and it's stored in the Photos app.

This feature is about to be rendered obsolete once Apple rolls out iOS 17 with NameDrop.

Even if you can return the dead AirCard to be recycled, this is still a waste. And with Apple trying to replace the physical wallet with their improved Wallet app, is there that big a market for this?

This is basically a subscription service since it can't be recharged/doesn't have replaceable battery. If you want to keep using the device/service/features after battery dies, you have to pay up for another one at some price that will certainly be higher than their current early bird price.

EDIT... I see it now. €27 early bird price is 31% off their regular retail price. So regular retail price is approximately €39. Replacement will be about €20.
I don’t disagree, but even in a tech, heavy city, like Seattle or San Francisco, the number of times where I’ve needed a physical credit card is still very high enough that I can’t go walletless yet.

And it’s not even just restaurants. Half the bars I’ve been to for trivia night still want a physical card to be given to them to start a tab.

Then there’s the hardware stores and both of the big names flat out refuse to support NFC out of spite at this point, because I can’t really imagine another reason why they would not support NFC.

I'm kidding... but probably the same folks who keep losing their Apple TV remote and are furious it doesn't have an AirTag built in or Find My support. Just put the remote back on the coffee table when you're done with it? Not all of life's simple challenges need to be solved with technology.

Apart from the NFC and QR code parts it’s very similar to the Tile Slim. They even cost about the same too. Just wish Apple would do a slimmer AirTag.

My mind went to the same place! I was thinking of those ExpressCard slots MBPs had back in the day.
Oh I remember those! It doesn’t feel that long ago but I think the last time I had a Mac like that was in 2000 or so. I was already an adult then. Time really f flies!

This is better than the $19 Anker/Eufy card, TWO ARTICLES BELOW THIS ONE, that has been available for years, why? Because bendy aluminum and breaky glass?

Not carried a wallet in about 4 years. Or cash unless it unavoidable.
Do you carry cards? Card-only wallets are popular. I'm old school and am still carrying the nylon wallet a friend gave me 40 years ago. Cards and some cash.

Yesterday I read that 2/3 of all the plastics were produced after 2011. Well... this stupid company is certainly doing its part:

When it comes to battery life, Rolling Square says AirCard will last up to 30 months, but it can't be recharged. Once the battery in your card dies, Rolling Square will send you a coupon code for 50% off a new card. You can then either return the spent AirCard to Rolling Square for component reuse or keep it to continue using its digital business card and QR-code scan-to-find capabilities that don't require battery power.

Not every market/region has a iPhone majority. It's useful for sharing with non-iOS Users, of which there are a lot in most European/Asian countries. Additionally most advanced Apple wallet functions aren't implemented in other countries apart from a select few.

This is useful for many esp. in Europe. So it isn't surprising that a Swiss company is behind this Kickstarter.

Some people lose their wallets often but I think this is more useful for temporarily misplaced wallets just like the way people misplace keys and their phones. Why spend 3 minutes looking for your wallet in your house when you can find it in 10 seconds? That’s the pitch anyway.

Of course they can. And break it in half when you sit on your wallet
Who still sits on their wallet? If it doesn’t kink your spine beyond the point of usefulness, putting your wallet in your back pocket is akin to putting your iPhone there, which I have seen some women do, or putting your firearm there, which I have NEVER seen anybody do.

just 2.2 mm thick (about the thickness of 1.6 typical credit cards
While it looks nice and quite impressive, this bit is not factually correct.

A typical credit card is 0.76 mm thick. So if the AirCard is indeed 2.2 mm, that's more like 2.9 cards, which makes it a lot more difficult to fit into a slot designed for a credit card.

If it's actually 1.6 mm thick (equivalent to 2.1 typical cards) it's even more impressive, and could probably fit in more places designed for credit card, but probably not all.

But I agree with other comments, it needs to support being bent and being suggested to quite some weight for all of us who put their wallet in their back pockets...
