Yes, BT needs to be activated for AirDrop between Mac/iOS devices.

What is the major deference between one with the adapter with attaneas and the one without?

You trade a PCIe slot and an USB port for a little better range?

No.

Only BCM94360 and newer cards are capable of AirDrop between Macs and iOS devices.
Yahh I found it in China. with $ 29 tax excluded. seems to be good.
