AirPod 2 wireless case not charging?

Had my AirPod 2 w/ wireless charging case for a little over a week and just started having an issue where I put them on my Qi charger and they stop charging but the case isn’t full.

Also the case feels warm. I don’t know what’s going on just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I actually have the exact same problem. Initially I contacted Apple Support and the advisor asked for my wireless charger model(Samsung Fast Charger) and had me go through a few troubleshooting steps. Both my AirPods 2 and AirPods 1 in Wireless Charging Case experience the same issue where it will charge intermittently judging based on the light of the Qi charger going on and off.

The solution the advisor provided which worked for the 1st time for me was power cycle your wireless charger pad and somehow it works for me. A week later I tried to charge wirelessly again but same issue...in the end I gave up and left the case aside. Next morning place it back on the wireless charger and it charged to full.

Hmm. Weird.

I’ve used 2 different Qi chargers and had the same result on both. The Nomad Base Station Apple Watch Edition and a RAVPower one I bought on Amazon.

I’ve tried power cycling both and didn’t seem to fix.

I’ve got a call with Apple set up for this morning to see what they say.

Is it stopping at 80%?

For iPhones, wireless charging stops at 80% when the temperature gets too high:

Your iPhone might get slightly warmer while it charges. To extend the lifespan of your battery, if the battery gets too warm, software might limit charging above 80 percent. Your iPhone will charge again when the temperature drops. Try moving your iPhone and charger to a cooler location.

Not 80%.

Seems to be random, but like I said the does or did feel warm. So maybe that's it.

Mine started working fine if I wait 10-15 minutes to place it on the Qi pad. I don't know. Nomad told me they're working on a fix as they've been able to replicate.

Well I’ll be waiting to hear as FedEx just delivered my Nomad AW charging station late today.

I think I figured it out. I have extreme difficulty charging the case if the case is also charging the AirPods/an AirPod. I think the case is overheating and going into protection mode.

If I charge an AirPod or both AirPods in the case first, wait a bit, and then charge the case, - zero issues.

I did. The layout of it bugged me. My phone was limited to the furthest pad on the right due to the Watch charger.

I can somewhat relate as I have an AP XR on the right & AirPods (bought a wireless case) on the far left w/ an AW behind it.

I started using the Nomad w/ AW base station on Fri. & to date the Airpods, XR & AW4 have all charged properly.

That said unless I’ve missed something, there’s nothing else sim. to this on the market @ this time so I’ll stay the course for now.

I have a Belkin Boost Up 10w and it won't charge my AirPods. The $10 Onn I got at Wall-Mart works fine.

Me too, sometimes I wake up and find the case actually discharged, after charging it first. For example, it goes from 60 to say 85, and then it goes down again.

That's kinda how I figured out what it was doing. I charged it before bed, woke up the next day; went to work and went to use them during my lunch and they were at 58% after being at 50% the previous night.

Yeah it looks like mine pauses when it gets hot and then resumes after cooling down a bit if you leave it on the charger. I observed this today with the Qi charger on my desk at work. If the case is trying to recharge the AirPods while being wirelessly at the same time, it definitely heats up faster (as expected because physics) and shuts down faster. Not a huge deal for me. I’ll probably just recharge overnight 1-2 times per week.

I also discovered that the metal hinge on the AirPods case causes issues with many wireless chargers, which causes it to stop charging. If you put something in between the AirPods case and the wireless charger, it solves it (like a cloth or a piece of card etc).
