I also discovered that the metal hinge on the AirPods case causes issues with many wireless chargers, which causes it to stop charging. If you put something in between the AirPods case and the wireless charger, it solves it (like a cloth or a piece of card etc).

I just tried that on the Belkin Boost Up 10w that previously would not charge my AirPods case and it worked!!

Yeah the wirelessly charging AirPods are a problem with a LOT of Qi chargers for this reason. Glad this solved your issue, but Apple really made a design faux pas here.

the battery gets too warm, software might limit charging above 80 percent. Your iPhone will charge again when the tempera

I now put a business card on the charging pad first, and no more problems.

But a design flaw indeed. We need an acronym for that: Yet Another Design Flaw - a YADF. Pronounced yadduf.

Yeah... it sort of boggles the mind that Apple didn’t catch this in testing. I mean, they had long enough...

I have the same charger and i also got issues with charging my AirPods.
I have also problems charging my case with the 10W Belkin boost UP, sometime’s it charge a few % up and then it is over.
Other time’s it does not charge at all.
The white light from the charger lights up, but after 10-20 minutes the charger lights up orange.

I am now trying to charge it with a small carton between the case and the charger but after 15 minutes not 1% up, still @56% as when it started.

Did anyone heard of a fix for this already?

I’m having this issue too: AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case and the Nomad Wireless Charging Base Station with Apple Watch. After 10mins or so, the orange light on the charger goes off and the case stops charging. At first I thought it was because I had positioned the charging case slightly off on the Nomad pad (it’s a bit tricky as there are 3 charging coils and for Airpods case + iPhone at same time, Airpods case has to be on the left coil), but it happened enough times that I came to look on the forums to see if others were having issues. And lo and behold this thread! Frustrating! I’ll try adding a piece of cloth to see if that helps, but we shouldn’t have to...

That solve it?

This actually worked for me on my Belkin Boost up 10W wireless charger. I put a piece of cloth inbetween the charger and the case and the next morning the airpods were at 100%. I'm kinda happy it works, but also a bit mad. This is a big design flaw from Apple.

Yeah it cheeses me off just about every day. I’m amazed Macrumors hasn’t put up a post about it in their news. It’s a significant design flaw.

I’m having this problem with an inexpensive Monoprice charger. Charges for 3-5 seconds then the orange light turns off and it stops charging. Nothing has worked yet—I’ve tried placing several things between the case and charging pad with no luck. Charges my Xr just fine.

Edit: I didn’t understand that the status light is only supposed to light for 8 seconds (Apple Support). The AirPods are at 100% and the case is now charging.

I have exactly the same troubles charging the case on an Aukey usb-c charging base, then I change it to a much more expensive model from the Apple Store, the Mophie but I still experience the same charging troubles.

If this problem is coming from the metal hinge, then it is a shame ^^ selling this at such price without any ability to work.

Same. I bought the wireless versions so I can easily top up at work without digging in my bag for a lightning cable (have a wireless charger on my desk). But this morning my AirPods just died because yesterday they clearly didn’t actually charge wirelessly when I put them on the charger

doesn’t help that the case doesn’t inform you. Why doesn’t the light stay on to show it’s receiving a charge? Maybe if you have AirPods or Apple Watch charging they could let you show that in the notifications are or more clearly somewhere? although Needing to use your phone is an unnecessary extra step so you often don’t bother and are running blind until it’s too late.

Feels like more than a waste of money - it’s paying more and getting less because you’ll get failed chargers leaving you with no way to listen when you need it

And ‘finicky’ is to an excuse - Apple says they charge on Qi mats. So they should just charge. Not ‘maybe on this one if you line it up and the wind is blowing in the right direction..’

Grrrr. 2 sets of AirPods, 3 wireless chargers; 1 Belkin 2 Samsung and nothing charges them. I’m off to put a small sheet of paper between them. They used to work fine but they don’t appear now at all in the battery app. This is pants.

Hi
I have the not charging on a pad issue with the AirPods pro case but does charge via lightening. If I put a peice of card on the Qi pad and place the AirPods case on top it charges with no issue.
I use a Mophie charger that has space for the pods, watch and phone. Had the pods since launch day and had no issue before 2 days ago. NEW firmware issue?
Regards

Josh

I find that putting my phone on the charger to turn it on then quickly swapping to the airpods works

I've had this for the first time over the last couple of days, to the point where I believed my AirPods Pro were broken. Even when I plugged it in via lightning cable, it didn't seem to do anything. The case must've been really dead.

Working 100% again now I've plugged them back into lightning. The wireless pad I use for my phone normally seems to work fine, and the charging light on the AirPods case lights up orange as normal, but maybe the issue described re the hinge or something is an issue.
