Ok. When the AirPods were first announced I had very little interest. But of course as time passes by I start thinking that it would be a good idea to get them. So I looked online and it said coming late October. No pre-order.

Have there been any leaks in the media as to the date for the release?

Are you going to buy one?

Normal earbuds are already expensive and costly to replace.
Airpods are like 4 times that expensive, and easier to lose.
You can't buy the left one if you drop it and can't find it for example.
The communication to it, just lowering volume or keeping bluetooth properly connected, etc. BT is always an issue, I wonder how seriously better this suddenly is..
And they're not even waterproof, heck, not even water resistant. So jogging in the rain with your watch .. makes you force them to put them away and not listen to your music ...

I don't see a reason to buy them, unless they're a 50$ upgrade when you order a phone.

I will buy them as wireless is far better for me in the gym for example. They will cost a lot but hopefully will be worth it and I wouldn't lose them. When not in use they go in the box which is what should happen

Are you implying you know the keynote slides for upcoming event. Or is your post just wishful thinking?
think it makes total sense to announce pre order on this keynote.

For such a big thing to have to not announce it on just a random day is odd to me. They did say late october afterall.

Wonder how long it will take for people to get theirs though? bet stock won't exactly be alot.

I don't like if I need to take them off for just a few minutes I have pull out the tic tac box or the alternative lay them down somewhere. Opposed to taking them out and letting them hang around my neck.

I'm not sure what $40 bluetooth headphones you think are the equivalent to these but similar ones I've been seeing are over $99 to $199.
You will be able to purchase individual units if one gets lost or damaged.
Apple has not stated water resistance on these but the new EarPods are said to be more water/sweat resistant, time will tell!
Bottom line! I do see a reason to buy these as the reviews have stated that the W1 chip is working as advertised and making connections quicker, easier and more reliable. Being able to use these as ether headphones (both) or a head set (individual) makes them far more valuable than ether individually. The wireless charging case will help make sure I don't loose them and that they are always ready when I need them.

just my view.

+1. I share your sentiments.
I have been on IRC since 199-something and when Skype came out, we've had weekly #caturday Skype parties with up to 14 people at times. We had laughs, snores, tears, and more laughs.
Except when the wireless BT headset person walked in.. The frustration with BT for microphone and headset was a constant frustration. I mean, it's better than speaker-echo, but the connection drops, the battery dies, they walk out of distance fast. You hear yourself echo back even though it's a headset, etc. We call them out after 2 minutes of being in the call and they are always on cheap or expensive bt headset. "HOW DID YOU KNOW!" trust me.. we know.

I really hope Apple breaks the 20 year old problems that I have had conversing with people on bt headsets, i really hope so.

Earpods from apple, the ones that come with the iPhones 6s for example.. The normal ones - that I use.. They are 35 euro here. If they break, I have to spend another 35 bucks, which sucks. If the Airpods of 160 euro break, that's another 160 euro..

Apple over twitter let me know to keep them away from water, they are not at all water resistant.

I wouldn't say that. Apple has released tons of products that were not rated at all for water resistance and turned out to be very water resistant.

But if you're looking for reasons to **** all over AirPods go for it.

Geesh, calm down. I am sharing what's I've learned about then and based on that I am sharing why I won't buy them myself. I am perfectly fine with others having different conclusions or assumptions and whatever, and go for it anyway.
No need to get all worked up over a discussion.

If they'd come with proper active noise canceling, I'd be very tempted! Apple's ANC already works pretty well during phone calls, so why not bringing it to the next level? Somehow I can't (or don't want to ;)) believe that the W1 chips are only designed to incorporate NFC for faster and more reliable pairing and to keep both Airpods in sync ...
