just sent mine back. two reasons

bought the wireless charging case version - airpower cancelled 2 days later.

hey siri is not fit for purpose. works fine indoors. outside with a bit of wind or when running, no chance. can literally be shouting at it and it won't work. stand still trying to get some music playing and start an outdoor run takes about 5 attempts each to get a response. And who wants to be standing on a quiet street at 6.30 in the morning shouting to themselves?

I'll stick with my gen 1 version for now.

Thanks for that. May as well use my apple watch for 'hey siri' then instead of buy airpods 2 and realise they don't work outdoors.

I don’t have a problem using hey Siri outdoors. Probably best to try them yourself in your own environments.

I'm wondering what (if any) difference is between Airpods 2 Made in Vietnam vs Made in China versions?

I already have got year ago Airpods 2 Made in China but I now happened to get brand new Airpods 2 Made in Vietnam as present and just wondering if I should keep them and sell the old ones, or just sell the new ones in unopened box for better price.

My main concern is that is there ANY difference between audio quality or battery life between the two depending on manufacturing location?
Also is build quality better or worse in other?

My current Airpods 2 (China) have very good audio quality and battery life but build quality is very bad, there are all kinds of sharp edges looking like parts are not glued together right.

I opened Made in Vietnam ones and I find that charging case scratches incredibly fast. I know these are prone to scratching since I already have ones I bought a year ago, but these new ones are incredible. I took like 5 minutes and case was badly scuffed and covered with light scratches just holding it in my hands and placing them on the table for like 2-3 times!! Build quality of the Airpods seemed about the same (bad) as in the ones I bought year ago, there are sharp edges because the seams are not aligned 100%.

Is there different kind of white plastic used in the Airpods build recently? My old ones are Made in China and the new ones say Made in Vietnam. Both are Airpods 2 with standard charging case.

I tried to compare sound quality between my two AirPods 2 pair and I must say that my 1 year old made in China ones sound a bit better than the new ones made in Vietnam. Not sure they need some break in period but new ones sound a bit muffled and less loud compared to old ones. Not a huge difference but noticeable when repeating the same song and listening to each pair carefully using the same source and volume level in both tests.

Interesting too that very little, almost non existent battery life difference between the two. I admit I have not used my old ones a lot but still I would expect to see them performing worse than new ones.

Anyone noticed similar or experienced sound quality improving after some break in?
Charging case definitely seems to pick up scratches much faster in new ones but not sure about the AirPods itself, they seem pretty good still. My old AirPods have definitely gotten a bit matte looking in the parts against ear vs. shiny on the new pair but the old ones are still scratchless.

What are people’s thoughts on the volume level?
I’ve come from soundcore earbuds which are far louder so still deciding whether the AirPods are for me. That said, earbuds naturally sound louder due to the noise cancellation.
