I am interested in purchasing the AirPods, however I only use my current EarPods for running or when I am at the gym, the rest of the time I use B&W P5s.

How do the current owners find the AirPods for this sort of thing?
Do they stay in while running/moving about a lot?
Is it annoying not being able to change song?
Would you buy them if this was the only reason for the purchase?

I can give you some information about being in the gym with the Airpods. They have never fallen out of my ears. I have run on the treadmill, elliptical, stairmaster, I have jumped rope and done jumping jacks, lifted weights and core exercises. I love these Airpods because the wires are not in the way, even the PowerBeats 3 wire was getting stuck to my neck at times and making the ear piece lose. The changing of the songs isn't a big deal because I have my towel by my phone and if I need to change songs I just pickup my phone and with the raise to wake feature on, I just have to hit the next song and never have to open the phone. I would like to have the volume option on the Airpods but I am good with it for now. Hope this helps.

I bought my AirPods for the gym. I've tried a few different bluetooth headphones and become very frustrated with them all. I don't want to spend my workout adjusting them or putting them back in my ear. I've started using the them as my everyday headphones.

I do mat exercises that have me moving and jumping a lot. Sometimes my head is upside down or sideways with an facing ear down, and they have not fallen out; I do feel a little pull, but minuscule, and I suppose that's just gravity. They sit really comfortably, and like my old ones, they don't feel rammed into my ears.

As I have just started using them at the gym I am hyper-conscious of them as I was always adjusting my old bluetooth headphones. Also, not having the rubbery wire sticking to my neck and pulling them out of my ear is brilliant.

I do the rower as well and like on the mat, I sweat a lot when I get going, and my old ones would slip due to the sweat, but the AirPods do not.

I also have an Apple Watch, so control volume and song from there (though I have a workout playlist so don't need to skip songs).

The Earpods included with the iPhone have fit my ears fine, and the Airpods do as well. I've used them on the treadmill a handful of times without issue and am going to give them a shot lifting weights today.

When I'm at the gym I just listen to a playlist and zone out, so changing songs isn't that big of a deal. If you have an apple watch, you can use the music app to control the volume and change the songs as well.

To me, the Airpods are one of the best products I've bought in a while.

I got my AirPods about a week ago and they're amazing. I wear them when I exercise and when I'm moving about or just doing work around the house and not once has one fallen out or felt loose. It is kind of annoying not to be able to change the song from the AirPods themselves, but it's just a minor annoyance to me. I use my Apple Watch to control my music because of this.

Technically, you can change the song with Siri, which I have done. Double-tap and say "next" works just fine. I agree though there should be a non-Siri way; obviously a tap sequence.

I forgot to mention that in my post. Yeah, it's an option, but I've found nothing to be more annoying than trying to run and tap one of the AirPods, and then to ask Siri to change the song while I can barely breathe :p

If you're running with the Apple Watch, you could change songs with the music app.

That's what I've been doing, though it's just mildly annoying to have to steady both hands in front of me as I'm running trying to hit a tiny skip button on a 2" screen :p

True, but it might be easier than getting Siri to actually work on the Airpods :)

I use mine almost daily on treadmill, elliptical and for outdoor runs. They have not fallen out of my ears yet..

Agree with the previous comment that they rock when used with the Apple Watch. Makes controlling volume and song skips 100% better...

Whether these suit you during physical activities all depends on your ears. If you're one of the majority Apple have attemped to cater for, then you should be ok. If you're unlucky, you're in the minority & will need to look at covers for them, which others here have suggested.

These have remained in my ears during ~10 workouts thus far + a running/soccer session for over an hour, so for me they're working very well.

Adapting to Siri is key. At first, not having physical volume/track controls was a deal-breaker for me, but I've gotten around that enough to satisfy my needs....see below.

Damn I never thought about not being able to change track, you'd hope Apple would've included some sort of touch gesture considering the price.
Double-tap, say "skip" & not care what others at gym think.

Also, adjust volume level as you walk into gym. Ask Siri what percentage of volume that level is & remember that percentage. Then, whenever you go to gym, say "set volume xx%" & don't worry about it during your workout. If it needs that rare slight adjustment, just say "increase/decrease volume" & you're done.

The fit, it's a personal matter, they will either fit and stay in or they will not, your EarPods are a great measure of fit.

Gym/excercise : is why I kept mine, they will sound .....let's say poor compared to your P5s, but they are fantastic for activities such as gym . For when I want to sit down and enjoy my music, they come out .... SQ is good for gym but not for enjoying your favourite tracks especially if you use something like the p5s . You are paying for convenience and BT, not SQ

What are you saying exactly to get Siri to say what the current volume percentage is at? I've tried various requests and never get the proper response. I know you can get Siri to set the volume at a certain percentage but not to tell you.

"What is the volume level?"

You need to say it whilst playing media.

Ugh might have to bite the bullet and get an Apple Watch. But I would prefer not to, much better options out there for my needs/wants.

Reading through this thread, the takeaway is we need to clean up our workout playlists so we don't need to skip songs so often.

Yes I might have to do that!! I got 128GB phone because I am too lazy to sort out what music I want on my phone. I just shuffle all when I am running... That will have to change.

Yes that's what I assumed, the EarPods are a great fit for me, the only time they do come out it because of that stupid cable ;) SQ doesn't bother me, I just want something for the gym/running and that's it, Apple have never made headphones with amazing SQ and I don't expect that from them.

In that case, they will be great for you.
