Who will buy them for running or workout? Since I'm currentlyusing the standard Earpods, I think they would be a great upgrade.
And before someone says it: Yes, I know there are cheaper ones and yes, I know that these aren't the first of its kind. But for me the Apple Headphones are the most comfortable in-ears I've ever used and the sound goes surprisingly deep for how lose they sit in the ears.

Nope, but I'll plan to test it with running. Yes, I'm brave.

Initial thought, yes, they are official Apple product, they pair via the phone. And they pair with the Watch too. The wire isn't in the way. And the watch is perfect for running. And now waterproof.

That's where the magic ends. They said on Twitter to me to avoid getting them wet as they're not waterproof. So don't sweat on them even? I don't know.. real life usage will tell us. I am not going to invest 160 bucks to find out when it starts to drizzle that I have to give up on a 2k walk or something.

Make sure they are charged, or run with the charger case on you. Which .. you don't want to do. But 5 hours of music (probably means a guaranteed 3 hours) should be enough for a run I am sure.

I used them to run a 5k they other day. But it was 33 degrees out and I was wearing a hat covering my ears. So not ideal testing conditions. But they did feel pretty good. Sometimes you worry, because you forget they are in there. They're just too light and comfortable.

They're far more resilient than Apple has let on:

I'm not going to worry about a little rain or sweat. I rode my bike for over an hour yesterday without issue.

If mine ever come in, I plan on using them for ultramarathons. I run with one earbud in and low for safety reasons, but have to tuck the wire and other stupid earbud into my shirt. Looking forward to TRULY wireless earbuds and just carrying the case in my hydration pack. With an earbud always on charge, this will well get me through a VERY long race just by alternating earbuds.

But... I'm still waiting on mine. I'll report back after I get them. If they arrive this week, I'll trail test them on a rim - river - rim Grand Canyon run this Sunday.

Ran with them at the gym yesterday and they did not move. I did not have to adjust them. I even took a phone call and the person on the other end sometimes had trouble hearing me, but overall it was super easy. I would recommend to anyone looking to use them at the gym.

Now done around 20 miles using them and my opinion hasn't changed luv um

I ran with them yesterday on a treadmill and didn't have any issues with them falling out. I did order a $4 strap for them off eBay that has not arrived yet but I don't think the strap will be needed..

I've had them for two days now, and here are my thoughts. I could never use earpods because they would fall out constantly. In my experience so far with the AirPods, I have not had issues with them falling out even when I have tried to make them fall out.

That said, I took them to the gym with me yesterday for about an hour and forty five minute workout. Beginning with the elliptical, no problems, I was impressed they stayed in and didn't even come loose. Then went to the floor mats for some situps, etc. This is the first time one fell out, as my head was sitting down on the ground repeatedly. I can get past this, because I dont expect headphones to stay in when I'm practically upside down, banging my head on the ground. Lastly, I went back to the treadmill for about a 10 minute run. At this point I was very sweaty and naturally the airpods began to loosen. I found myself constantly pushing them back into my ears to keep them tight, which annoyingly triggered Siri over and over again (a setting, I know). The airpods did not fall out while running, but I spent more time worrying about them coming loose and pushing them back in than I did focusing on my workout.

I'm still enjoying them, however, I'm going to consider some over the ear hooks for when I'm at the gym.

One concern is that they may not be isolating enough when running on a treadmill or streaming music on a plane or train. Honestly, I don't really care all that much about all the other features. I wear hearing aids so the airpods would get limited use. The hearing aids also stream but the quality is awful and not conducive for any of the activities mentioned. Still, the airpods don't cost much more than a good pair of bluetooth sports earbuds. If they can stay firmly put in my ear when on a treadmill and I don't have to be bothered much by outside noise, I'm sold. Any thoughts?

In another thread, someone mentioned using the Earskinz on their AirPods and they got much better fit, seal, and isolation. The problem there is that they won't fit in the case with the Earskinz on. I'd love to have the option of using something similar to Earskinz when I want a better fit/seal (enjoying music on the couch, etc) but still fit in the AirPods case.

As a runner, I don't want them isolating sound if I'm running on roads and trails. I need to hear my surroundings and not be oblivious. This is also why I run with only one earbud, except when running on a treadmill. Something like Earskinz might be great for noisy, annoying gym treadmills though. :)

Understood and thanks for the replies. I'm asking your opinion for my situation. I'm trying to figure out if I'd be better off with something like Powerbeats (same price or cheaper than the airpods for the previous model) or something similar vs. the airpods. I would never wear them when running outside.

If only for treadmill use, the PowerBeats definitely get much longer battery life and seal better. They might be more comfortable for you as well. Another bonus is the remote so you can play/pause/volume... I have an Apple Watch for that, but I'm going to miss the convenience of just using a button on my earbud for volume/pause.

EDIT: BeatsX is also really nice - but it's not supposed to be out until February sometime.

They are not going to keep out noise, everyone is different versus whether or not they will stay firmly in one's ears.

I do not have to keep pushing them back in my ears like the EarPods, I have not tried them in the gym yet but I know they are not going to keep music out that is piped into the gym nor will they keep out noise from treadmills, stairmasters, etc.

Definitely agree with you. After running in Manhattan and now in surburbia, it's important to hear your surrounding when you run. I feel that airpods/earpods are good enough at providing adequate volume while still being able to hear your surroundings, as long as you leave your volume at a level to hear around you. Also, when possible, for safety as well, you should run in the opposite direction of traffic to keep an eye on what's coming at you, cause cars coming upon you may be difficult to keep track of when they are behind you.

I was going to get the airpods but opted for the Bose Soundsports instead. $10 cheaper and about 100 times better sound quality. And the battery lasts longer as well.

I've worn my Airpods with earmuffs outdoors and they stay secure.

I will wear the earmuffs indoors also for the same reason.

Doing inverted sit-ups unbalances the Airpods and they fall off.

Like you, I want to focus on my workout rather than my apparel.

I have ordered another earmuffs and also an AirPods attachment as added support.

I bought this & received it within days of ordering for a few dollars:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silicone-Ea...162709?hash=item3f708bff55:g:4oEAAOSwa~BYQOJj

I can wrap it around the Airpods case & use it for those just in case moments.

I'm going to the jacuzzi with these attached so that I can keep the Airpods firmly in my ears and out of the water.

Various attachments are appearing at a reasonable price that it allows for experimentation.

Totally agree on the sound quality, but as far as battery life, the AirPods carrying case is so small, and you just have to pop them in to the case to recharge. The SoundSport might last longer on a single charge, but once it runs out you have to plug in to a cable, or tuck it into its charging case, which is like $50 extra and a lot bulkier than the AirPods case.

Of course, you could be like me and never use up the battery on the SoundSport before getting home to charge. It really depends on your usage pattern.

I did buy the $50 charging case. So my cost was a little more. I just needed the sound quality of Bose and there is 0 chance of losing 1 or both of this litptle AirPods.

Yes, that's why I went with SoundSport myself -- sound quality plus no fear of losing them. The cord is actually quite comfortable hanging around my neck when I'm not using the earphones, and I just cross the two ends over each other once, to make sure they stay in place. It's like wearing a necklace.

I do find totally wireless earbuds appealing, because the wire does pull sometimes. But it's a huge improvement over being wired to my phone. And I do want the sound quality I get with the Bose, and so far, all the reviews indicate that none of the truly wireless buds are quite there.
