This might be the best reply ever.

Just because you've never had a problem with sweat lets not care about improving them by making them sweat or waterproof?

Sound quality is fine for what they are, so let's not care if it could be improved?

Extra colours are a novelty? Ok perhaps, and honestly I personally don't care much about colour. The white is classic but I've seen a lot of people post they won't buy them till there is black option which kinda seems reasonable to have two colour options at least.

The absolute best though is if you want to control your volume with more ease go out and buy a $500+ Apple watch and honestly I don't find that very intuitive since I've had my Apple Watch but hopefully it does when I get my Airpods.

Either you work at Apple or you've been drinking the :apple: flavoured cool aid a looooong time. Airpods are a great product but still a lot of ways they can be improved. Complacency of Apple fans is what is ruining this company effort at innovation and improving it's current products. Kinda sad.
I wasn’t saying that those improvements wouldn’t be nice. I’m just saying that the problems that are brought up here are not very important in my opinion. Obviously, waterproofing would be nice. But my point was that at the current moment in time, the sweat resistance isn’t terrible. And the problem with making the audio better and noise canceling, is that Apple would have to have a design change to implement better equipment. The thing that’s great about the AirPods is just how small and convenient they are. And, there are already several rumors that Apple is working on more professional over the ear headphones, that would include all the noise cancellation and bass performance that people want. Lastly, more colors would be nice. However, I hope that people realize that Apple would charge more for that mat black version, just like they do with the magic trackpad and magic mouse.

I can already see the complaints. “Apple introduces new Space gray AirPods with mat finish for $229. Afterwords, these are just filled with complaint on top of complaint

If it’s a matte finish your paying I guess I get that but I would agree with the majority it’s kinda nickel and diming.

Maybe if they made a matte white along with matte black it would be an easier sell. And the a glossy black along with the glossy white at the same price.

But for a supposed second gen product from Apple I personally would like to see more than hey Siri support and an over priced wireless charging case, which Apple’s main competitor offers for free and charges less than AirPods with the regular case.

Then you forgot the group that is even more contributing to it. They are unhappy and go around forums to express loudly the lack of innovation and how bad things are. They don't like the leadership and see that Apple is going downhill. At the same time they take their money and still spent it on Apple products. Now I agree with you, kinda sad, isn't it?

Oh wait, did you just ordered AirPods?

To answer the OP's question:
I did order with the wireless charging case. Is it worth it? I don't know ...

So why did I order it?
- If I am not trying it, I won't know if it is worth it.
- When wireless charging came out for the phone I thought it would be a gimmick ... now I use it almost exclusively.
- I still have a regular case and while the AirPods really deteriorated in battery life, the case itself seemed to be fine.
- It was only $40 more for the wireless case to explore new innovation and a manageable expense for me.

At the end only you can decide if it is worth it for you.

Looks like you ignored the part that you quoted from me saying that AirPods are a great product and since I'm an iPhone user and wanted comfortable commuting/hopefully run wireless earbuds it was the most logical choice.

My post was about two people posting that AirPods don't need to be improved and or that there aren't any improvements that they would benefit from and that's simply not true.

Yes I ordered AirPods because my beats X died.

I have the beats x and I wasn’t a huge fan. For me the wires bothered me...a lot. Hoping the AirPods will be different for me.

If you only use wireless charging it’s worth it. Otherwise no. That’s my opinion.

I went ahead and ordered the ones with the wireless charging, but then when I saw that the Apple Store had them in stock yesterday, I cancelled the order and just bought them there. So far, so good!

Only reasons I upgraded to the wireless charging case is because one, my case has a lot of discoloring and chips from how many times I've dropped them and two, because I started getting rid of my lightning chargers when the iPhone X came out due to the fact that my cables would break with time. Thus, I invested in a wireless charger nearly two years ago and now I only have one lightning charger which is in my car. All my other ones have become damaged.

For me the upgrade was worth it, but I can understand why it wouldn't be for the majority of people.

I went ahead and upgraded my case. You could say I’m one that drinks the cool aid (which I have since the clamshell MacBook). Haha. I just utilize wireless charging for everything. I sold my old case on eBay and made 45$ (I think I simply got lucky on making that much). I wasn’t willing to upgrade entirely because I was disappointed with the lack of update to the AirPods. I’d expect sweat/water proof, noise cancelling and just more features. I’ve tried the 2nd gen on and the “hey Siri” function doesn’t really impress me. Currently, I can say “hey Siri” with my gen 1’s and I still get Siri to pop up (guessing it’s because my phone or watch pick up the voice). Sound quality sounds the same to me. I simply couldn’t justify it, but I went ahead and did the case because of everything else being wireless charging. I think the case cost could be lowered a bit, but that’s why I’m a consumer! Hah. Feature wise...I agree with JGIGGS all the way on a reply to a post about features! Priceless!

Wireless case = gimmick.

People have expected so much more out if the second gen Airpods, but I think many have forgotten apple's pattern for the past few years...

We were not surprised when the Series 2 Watch looked just liked the original and featured only under the hood improvements.

We were not surprised when iPhone 8 was really no different than 6 in form.

We were not surprised when all of the MacBooks started looking the same.

But why are we upset that the new Airpods are just a "Series 2"?

I think their isn't any reason to re-engineer a popular well-designed product. Airpods 2 feature some great improvements, and I might feel different about the wireless case if the new 2019 iPhone has PowerShare ability.

To end, if the iPhone's wireless charging back was an upgrade just like the new wireless charging case for AirPods, I guarantee you that most probably wouldn't buy it.

I'm guessing the wireless case was really designed to work well with the defunct AirPower. Look at all the images out there.... AirPower
