You're making things too complicated. Once paired with your iPhone running iOS 10, you can just swipe up on the iPad's screen (any screen), and pick the AirPods from the list of devices you can play to. Done. No messing with Bluetooth menus etc. That's the whole point here!
[doublepost=1482627789][/doublepost]

Thanks WilliamG i did not realize that's the option too. I did swipe up from ipad screen and then swipe right i saw the list of bluetooth devices. Simply swiping up brought the AirPlay/Airdrop etc... Thanks for the very useful info.

After all, what were you doing before with your WIRED earphones? That's right - you were using that ghastly dangling cord, or the phone itself!

But there are other Bluetooth earphones that have volume control on the earphones, instead of making you go to your phone to control the volume.

Mine work great, but due to a peculiarity of my ears, when I place the AirPods in my ears, one Pod sits flat next to my face, and one juts out at a strange angle. If I try to correct the one that sticks out, it becomes loose. I think this is less noticeable with the wired EarPods. It just looks truly weird, and I doubt I will be keeping them for that reason. This is a shame because they work really well.

Highly unlikely that people will forget those because they are little expensive but most people at this moment. Regarding in ear fitting it snugs in beautifully so dropping from ear is not an issue with that. If people would keep in their side pockets with or without case then it's possible. By the way what do you guys do with the lost items?

I think it's highly likely I will find them! Had someone leave a brand new Mac Pro still in the box on the train, an iMac, hundreds of phones and iPads per day. It's crazy what people leave behind haha.

So we collect them, enter them into an online register, which can be accessed at any station or in head office by staff. We try and find the owner of it has some for if ID is associated with it. If not, it gets sent to storage at Central Station. If the owner doesn't get into contact with us, after a few months it's either disposed of or auctioned off

I was interested in these until I knew about the volume/track control.

I don't use Siri, but I think the lack of fine control for volume and needing repeated Siri calls to skip tracks is not for me

Additionally not being able to use hands free controls without signal makes it not fit my lifestyle at all (due to lots of travelling underground)

The old ear buds kept sliding out too, so I don't know how these are but they won't be too good for me I guess. I even have trouble with the wireless PowerBeats being a good fit

Will check out the other wireless options: Bose Sports or the new JayBirds. They do have wires connect the buds, but that's a small price to pay for manual controls without pulling out my phone/engaging Siri

- I feel like Siri's sound quality through the AirPods is worse (lower bitrate, slight hiss) than the sound quality of music or videos. It could be that Siri / calls use the SBC codec instead of AAC for lower latency

Yeah this brings down the class/quality of the Airpods imo.

All the delays with the wireless solutions (for many over 6 months since the launch of the iPhone 7), inefficient control solutions, combined with an almost total lack of support for Lightning as a replacement for 3.5mm headphones, including no support for it on their own Mac, just seems unprecedented for a company that knew this was the direction they were headed with mobile audio. It's almost as if they didn't know they were going to commit to this decision and therefore weren't prepared with the development of support peripherals. Could the AirPods have been a Beats project Apple appropriated at the last minute?

Very doubtful. There's absolutely zero Beats DNA, and Apple would've handled the wireless/accelerometer electronics if these were BeatsPods anyway so wouldn't have made a difference.

I've seen elsewhere that a Terminal command can fix the issue mentioned in #361, although I generally avoid such measures.
Terminal command? Yeah I'm with you - it's not a huge issue, so I'll let Apple take care of it whilst I enjoy these things. :)

On the double-tap for Siri sensitivity, I think they've got it spot on. People, whether out of habit or necessity (if they don't fit properly) will always adjust the Airpods, often by multiple taps on the buds, so they needed to reduce the sensitivity to prevent accidental Siri prompts.

Not sure if mentioned yet, but turns out that the charging case ceases to charge the Pods if it's battery is low enough. Probably happens around 5% mark. I would assume this is to make sure the case can handle it's other functions, like shutting down the Pods or something.

Wow! Look at you smarty pants! What an incredibly obvious idea that 250 headphone engineers surely never even thought of doing! Ya just add a swipe gesture ya numnuts engineers!

Do you have any understanding of the battery constraints/goals they had set forth? Do you even look at the AirPod and wonder "how in the #@$#ing hell did they literally remove the wires and not change a thing, yet give these things 5 hours battery EACH???". I'll tell you how. They used an accelerometer instead of an always on skin detecting sensor. Do you have ANY idea how small the batteries are inside each AirPod? Do you have ANY idea how insanely difficult it is to hit 5 hours battery life in that form factor with ZERO controls whatsoever? I agree there should be more options within the toggleable settings using the accelerometers (left earphone double tap volume down, right volume up, etc), but there had to be ONE sacrifice to get them to a worthy state.

Hopefully soon we see battery improvements in the entire industry because we are all limited by the forces of nature right now. It doesn't matter what year you put in bold. These people are ten times smarter than any of you complaining are, and you should try being a little thankful for the first big step towards TRUE functional wireless headphones before crapping all over what they created. I guess it's just the way humans are -- ego comes first, if there's something to critique we attack it and give no objective reasoning to the hard decisions OTHER human beings have made to create it in the first place. So sick of these forums, I wish they'd round up all the technology prophets in here and throw them into a design studio for 6 months to see how they handle things. Cheers :)
I think this is a more appropriate response than personally hammering someone who may have less understanding of technical issues than you may have: http://mattgemmell.com/eulogy/

Another great example of loving the air pods was falling asleep last night with my air pods listening to music and they stayed in my ears perfectly. woke up at 4am and put them back in the case and good to go again for when i woke up.

Finally got hold of mine today and no issues at all with my SE or iPads - instant pairing and sound great. However, trying to use them on my iMac is a complete disaster area: the sound just breaks up constantly even if I'm sat directly in front of it :(

Edit: Figured out the problem: I had a logitech wireless mouse adapter plugged in to my iMac (I use a different mouse when playing games) and that was causing the problems: Unplugged it and they work great on all my devices :D

Tim Cook is a terrible engineer. His fingerprints are all over the AirPods.

Why else would it require Siri to control?

My god I've been using wireless Bluetooth headsets for 7 years and all of them have inline controls.

And some guy in this thread said we should be thankful for the first true wireless headphones?

Really? You think AirPods are the first true wireless headphones? Are you that brainwashed and blind to say such a thing?

I have never seen more ignorance in my entire life. These $160 POS are just plain stupid.

Cook is a terrible engineer? How Do you know he designed these or his contribution to the Airpods ? Perhaps you could have designed these better? Can you confirm how Your findings on Cook and how you know this?

Ignorant you say? Sounds like you are ignorant on the fact of the Airpod capabilities and beyond.

Your more focused on the comparison of other products you have used, when in fact, Apple isn't even trying to emulate any other product on the market.

The Airpods are Apple's first first proprietary Product with the W1 chip. It's also an evolving product that easily has the potential to grow.

The fact that These can provide five hours of battery life and can be paired seamlessly between other Apple Devices is key. 15 minutes of charging is equivalent to three hours of use, that's fairly impressive.

The Airpods are not trying to set the market with the most innovative features, but they are providing an experience that truly is hands free with portability of the charging case.

The tapping with Siri controls seems to be more liked than not from what I have read. It takes time to adjust, but it makes sense what Apple was intending to do.

The fact you are labeling these a "POS" really says what you understand about these, which apparently isn't Much.

why are you even in the thread?

you don't like them? great stop repeating the same message..

this thread really is for people who have questions, issues and overall enjoyment of them. You don't have them yet keep posting the same issue you have. Not everybody will buy them and you have the right to buy what you wish.

So I let the charging case's battery run empty. The AirPods will turn off as you put them in the case and turn on as you take them out, even though the case has no battery left. The Pods won't turn on when you open the lid, only when you take them out.

And as I said earlier, the case won't charge the Pods if the case is low on battery. I assume low is less than 5%. Not sure why it does that, because as far as I can tell the case has only one task: To charge the Pods. I can't come up with a good reason why it refuses to do that.

Also found this piece of information from Apple's Support doc: https://support.apple.com/HT207010
4. Still can't set up your AirPods? Press and hold the setup button for at least 15 seconds, until you see the status light flash amber a few times and then flash white.
So in case anyone is having any issues with the case or Pods, try doing that before you panic any further. I suppose it does some sort of factory reset or something.

jsmitty, How much time do you think that you got before the full discharge?
I can't really say. I've been playing with them a lot since Monday (take them out to pause, switch devices, use one at a time, etc) with charging some and then fully discharging that one time. It's not been a good use case but definitely a few hours.

I got my AirPods today and am really pleased. Th only issue that I'm having is that the audio when talking to Siri seems to be really low quality? Is anyone else experiencing this?
