Anyone had this issue? Had it for a while now, every day I have to go into settings to set my preferred functions. Namely left for Siri, right for ANC, with Transparency disabled.

I’ve tried unpairing, resetting etc, but alas. They’re still under warranty so will get on to Apple about it if I have to, but has anyone experienced this and solved it? It’d save me 30 mins of support and a blinking survey* afterwards, ha!

*If the support is good, I like to acknowledge it, it’s a human at the other end after all

I don’t have a solution for you. I am in the exact same boat. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

both AirPods Pro swapped out by apple
The charging case swapped out
Reset AirPods Pro, setup iPhone from new with no back up.

none of it fixes the issue. I don’t know what else to so

Thanks.

It’s quite annoying. I’m not prepared to setup my phone from new again, too much hassle as I’ve got loads of Apple Music downloaded. Plus, I’ve realised I actually have installed from fresh during this time for unrelated reasons.

I’ll contact support, at the very least I’ll get fresh Airpods. I may just have to live it with having to dip into settings every day.

By the way, two sets of three AirPods Pro have repeated problems in my house. My opinion of the APP is they’re great....when they work. Along with a few other niggles in all the sets, they’re far from the perfect magical product a lot of people claim them to be.

Edit: I’ve contacted support, they’ve installed a Bluetooth Profile on my iphone, monitoring it over the next couple of days. It happens so frequently, there’ll be a wealth of logs confirming my issue.

OK, so I'm not proclaiming to have this solved, but I need others to test this theory. I worked with an Apple Support agent last night who sent me to this link:

Now, I had visited this page numerous times, but this time I noticed the VERY FIRST LINE. "Open the AirPods Case, then go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iOS or iPadOS device."

Now, in the 30 times I have reset them, I can't swear that I had the case open. Usually the case was likely on my desk or back in my pocket when I'd notice that they reset themselves. So, I did it again last night with the case open and as of now, they have still remembered their setting. The theory is that the case doesn't get the change when the lid is closed and resets the pods.... but that's just my theory.

I still have an open case with Apple and they want to send me new Airpod Pros as the next step. I told them it didn't help others, but that's what they said they have available as a next step. So, please try it and report back if it helps.

Interesting, I will try that thanks.

Out of curiosity, do you have many other BT headphones paired? I have a lot, I’ve got several headphones dotted around different locations for convenience. One small possibility is it that I’d exceeded some limit. I also have an open case with Apple.

I don't know what constitutes as "many" but I have 2 sets of airpods (pro and non), some Bose QC, 4 Amazon Echos, 2 cars and a few portable BT speakers.

I think the "Open case" is the ticket. Mine has held for almost 48 hours. Here's my theory... The Airpods can now connect to multiple devices. (That's another frustration all by itself. No, I don't want you to connect to my watch by default...) You wouldn't likely want them to have different settings across devices, so the config is actually stored in the case. I noticed this morning that my airpods paired with my macbook instead of my phone. I hit Siri on the right stem and my computer was sitting there waiting for an answer instead of my phone. So, I went and looked at my settings on my Mac. Right stem, Siri. Left Stem, all 3 ANC options. I can wrap my head around the concept that the case sends the config to the device when it connects.

Yeah Id considered that re settings across devices. It has had same settings across devices once configured, but defaults after 12 hours or so.

I have similar number of devices, Bose, two Sony’s, a couple Alexa’s, old Airpods, Powerbeats Pro, BeatsX. I’ve temporarily unpaired them all bar APP and 1 Sony, doesn’t appear to have made any difference though.

Apple got back to me today after a couple of days monitoring my BT usage via the installed profile and my feedback (screenshots and screen recording Id submitted).

The support alluded to a possible fix in the future, whether via software or a forthcoming Airpods firmware update (rolled in as a part of another update of course - I don’t kid myself they’ll update them just for my issue lol) . He was speaking quite cryptically, presumably because all calls are recorded and he was limited in what he could say. Equally, I assume that’s partly because he could give me no time frame, which I suppose stops me from pestering them about the unfixed problem.

I’m not entirely satisfied, but I didn’t really expect a fix. Ill live with it a while longer - I’ve got used to changing the settings quickly every day - but when it’s coming near end of warranty (I bought Apple Care, about 9 months left), I absolutely will pester them no end for replacements if it’s not fixed by then.

brand new pair of Airpods Pro here, and I've noticed this same problem - only they seem to lose the settings every couple/few times I use them, i.e. much sooner than every 18-24hrs as observed by the OP.

I set the left ear press&hold to Siri, right to Noise Control - and yes, I've tried it by first opening the case before going to Settings, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. The settings do stick for a while, but eventually (eg. within same day) keep going back to left and right press&hold set to Noise Control

Hmm, does sounds like mine. I’ve actually had it happen twice in a day, largely depends on how long I go between using them in a single day.

I'm still holding settings after programming mine with the case OPEN and the airpods docked. Previously, I would lose settings within 24 hours. Another theory I have is make sure no other devices are nearby when setting them. My thought is that if the airpods are connected to multiple devices, maybe it won't hold settings because both devices won't get it. Usually I am sitting at my desk with my iMac next to me, or at home with my Macbook Pro nearby. When I programmed them the last time, I was in the car and the only thing around was my phone. I'm grasping at straws here, but I can make it make sense in my head.

I'm also having the same issue with my Airpods Pro and Airpods 2, the settings always resets after a while (mine particularly for the automatic ear detection). I've hard reset the Airpods with the case open, but still no fix.

earlier today I upgraded to iOS 14.3, in case that made any difference for this problem - well, it didn't. I've also reset my Airpods Pro a few times now and set up from scratch, but no difference for this issue, even with first opening the case before setup/first connect. The left ear setting to Siri always gets forgotten within a day.

ok I'm going to give your suggestion a try. So far, I think each time I set up my AirPods Pro for my iPhone, I've either been at my desk with iMac and iPad here, or somewhere else with at least my iPad nearby in addition to my iPhone. So I just went to another corner of the house away from iMac and iPad and set up again from scratch (Forget the Airpods in bluetooth settings, reset the Airpods, and then reconnect as new). Crossing my fingers, will watch what happens and report back...

Update: no luck. it's only about 4hrs after I re-setup everything away from my iMac and iPad, but already the press&hold setting (Siri) for the left ear has been forgotten and reverted to the default (Noise Control)

After months of this happening, the problem hasn’t happened in the last few days. Odd.

This has been affecting me since 14.0.

The settings revert back to default anytime you connect Pros or Max to any iOS device it seems. Connecting to my Mac doesn't seem to effect it. I would have to double check with Apple TV and watch.

My settings are what they should be when connected to Mac at anytime though. Makes me think the new auto switching feature saves the configurations per device and that's what is being screwed up.

Nor me.

Oddly, mine remembers about 50% of the time these days, and the time between last use and using them again seems to have no bearing. Used them tonight, having not used them for a couple of days, and the settings remain. Whereas sometimes they'll lose settings in the same day.

An improvement over 100% failure previously I suppose, ha!

I'm pretty sure, through trial and error, that it's related to the auto switching nonsense between devices. Turning that off on all your devices doesn't seem to help though.

A couple months later and problem still happening here, even using exclusively with my iPhone all this time. None of the reported solutions make any difference, the setting always reverts back to default after some short period of time. I will say there was a week or so where I thought the problem went away but that was just a false alarm.

At this rate this bug is going to outlive the lifetime of these AirPods Pro, I’m afraid

I'm suspecting old hardware, like my 2017 MacBook Pro is what is causing the setting forgetting...

Not in my case. Oldest is 2018 iPad Pro and XS. Never used them with my ancient macs.

Same issue to with AirPods Max. I will certainly try the open case with AirPods Pro docked inside, and see if it at least sorts the issue out with them.
