It's harder to tell how the Airpods sound at their best when they don't fit in your ears properly.

With a snug fit, & decent standard source material, they're very good.
don't get me wrong, the airpods are not bad, but the beoplay e8 are just better in sound quality

i had both, the e8 sounds much better, clearer and has more bass. however, the airpods are so convenient when using multiple devices. unfortunately, i returned my airpods, because they don't fit very well. otherwise i would still use them.

so, if sound quality is your priority, then go get the e8, otherwise get the airpods

Also consider $159 for AirPods and $299 for e8 most places. Also, shoved in-ear or sitting outside of ear. Two big differences for me.

I do care about sound quality but nearly double in this case is something most people will have to think carefully about.

Not yet addressed.....the voice sound quality on phone calls is also excellent. While driving, I use only one pod and voices are far better than through the car speakers for phone calls. Even with only one, the sound of the spoken word when listening to podcasts somehow reduces the perception of road noise far better than increasing the volume on quality speaker in the vehicle, IMO.

Go to Settings > Music > EQ
You have a bunch of equalization presets in there.

If you want to make your own, you can on iTunes (Mac and Windows). Go to Window > Equalizer and create a preset. They sync with your iOS devices.
I did not know you could make your own EQ preset in iTunes. Thanks for the info!

I just picked up a pair last week and am very satisfied with the sound quality.. They are actually clear through the entire volume range which is surprising.

The clarity through the range is AMAZING. Every other headphone I've earned at max volume distorts in someway but the airpods are just so clean.

The only drawback is its design means a lot of sound leakage and sound going in so you can't completely drown out the surroundings in the gym, but its probably good for your hearing long term.

Limited in regards to video too.. I've found files played through nPlayer or VLC player on my ipad were too quiet but once I boosted them by 200% using the app, it was fine.

Definitely agree with the others. Sound quality is above average. Way better than the standard EarPods.

I highly recommend these guys from Amazon for the sound leakage issue. WELL worth the $8.95 price tag. I can’t comfortably listen to mine anywhere above five “dots” from full volume with them in and I have significant hearing loss from four years as a rifleman in a helo company.
