I agree about the Soundsports sounding better than tha airpods, but for me, the difference isn't all that much, plus the convenience of the AirPods are what wins me over; I like being able to carry them in my shirt pocket, and the ease that they connect with all of my other Apple stuff.
Plus, they "just work", like just about everything Apple makes.

Exactly. I don't think my SoundSports will be seeing much if any use after getting the AirPods.

Was considering AirPods but my wife bought me a pair of $30 ear buds on amazon. Haven’t gotten them yet. Do you all feel the price for AirPods is justified vs bargain brands? My wife says I’m an Apple snob because I would have paid the extra $130..

Value is subjective and it really depends if you like the convenience of the AirPods. For 30 I don’t think you’re getting a pair of good headphones anyway. Really depends on your usage.

I assume not as well. However, in reviews audio quality is not typically something people rave about AirPods for.

I agree. The audio quality is not good but coupled with the convenience it somewhat works. Personally I use much better headphones if I want to really listen to solid music. AirPods are more like day to day travel and gym pair for me.

so my wife has them, I have the solo3

airpods and wife
-she loves them
-ease of use
-fits perfect in her ears (more on this later)
-sound quality she cant really tell a difference between the bose soundtrue wired and the airpods

airpods and husband
-I like them a lot
-ease of use, nothing like opening them and boom connected
-does not fit great in my ear, they feel loose which worries me, I'm happy I'm wearing them with a snow cap for now
-sound quality is not as good as solo 3 if you ask me, but that is expected

would I buy them, yes, I love them for walking around dc and just throwing them in or when I am walking the dogs, I might feel weird walking around dc for about 5-10min with the beats, and this goes back to ease of use, with the Airpods, I just throw them in the case, with the beats, I need to unzip fold them back up and zip the case, and put the case in my work bag. just way more which doesn't seem like much, but it is when you do it 4-8 times a day.

also beats wouldn't work well with a snowcap.

airpods worry me because there so small, but I take care of my stuff, that does not mean I am not worried about them, especially when layering some much during winter.

*just make sure you have a dedicated pocket for the airpods (kind of like you have for your wallet and phones)

Ive had my AirPods a few days now and I have to say put me in the Yay camp, practically fell on the floor laughing when I saw these introduced in 16 but Ive seen so many great reviews online and from friends that curiosity got the better of me so I went for it.....so glad I did, maybe its because Ive read some negative things about the sound quality and I had low expectations but Im actually really impressed with the sound too (I also have on ear Audio Technia's so I'm not adverse to getting a little nerdy about sound)

These things are just great, ridiculously easy to use with any apple device, Ive had zero issues with them falling out either

Go get them guys

All I can say is I use them one at a time at work all day long at the desk steaming music, npr, sports talk, netflix preaching, comedy, news an audible books. It really make the day go by faster. Its doesn't distract me at all since I already have the normal office background noise. No wires and small/discreet; This can't be beat for an office worker!

Depends how often you use them, what you need them for.

I'm also a little geeky when it comes to sound quality - home theatre wise, I've invested in decent quality gear, so with headphones, they need to more than just 'good enough'. & I think the Airpods are slightly more than good enough. If your source is of decent quality, &/or you have your streaming software set to the highest quality with all dynamic range reduction settings turned off, then the Airpods really shine & become a high end portable & every day/all-day 'package'.

I say Nay. I've had mine less than a year and now one of them stopped working. Apple wont look at them without an appointment which is impossible to get in 1-2 weeks.

I have to pay $69 to mail the darn thing in, which feels ridiculous because Im not only paying, I'm also entrusting them with this headphone. I don't get it, and I'm extremely unhappy with the quality of this device. I'm in California and there's absolutely no appointments so I'm stuck with broken headphones.

I finally went to the Apple store today, and they gave me a new left one. We will see how it goes.
Following up again... it’s been a week and a half, and I haven’t had any incidences of my previous issues (lots of super annoying connecting while still in the case). It must have been a faulty connection issue with that left one.

Rather than being stuck, why don’t you just book an appointment for whenever they’re available?!

The ability to pop the AirPods charging case in your pants pocket is a huge tiny competitive advantage:

After a long time undecided I took the plunge today and got some AirPods - love them so far. Compared to PowerBeats3 they pair easier, don’t sound as bassy but have enough power. Overall the sound is way better than I was expecting. Most of all I love the light feel - it’s like listening to music in a room - I kept them in doing chores, walking around the place, had a little dance and lots of head nodding / side to side - they haven’t fallen out yet. Tomorrow I’ll try them travelling and see how the charge holds up.

Not really a yea or a nay but more “meh”. I own AirPods and Bose Soundsport Free’s the Bose are superior in every way in terms of sound quality which is the number one important criteria for me. The charging case is indeed larger than the AirPods but I can deal with it. I work and commute in a big city and the AirPods just don’t isolate the sound well enough to be effective in noisy environments. Maybe if Apple redesigned the buds to seal in sound or offer active noise cancellation that would help.

I just returned a pair of B&O E8’s and they would have been perfect except for the fact I could walk down a city street, turn my head left or right and have the signal break up no matter if the iPhone was in a jacket breast pocket, a front pocket, or back pocket. I don’t have any issue with signal breakup with either the Bose or AirPods.

Yay on AirPods. Too much spotty connection issues and video lag with the $90 more Bose Spundsport Free. They isolate and sound a little better but for me AirPods are good enough. The connection is better and reliable with zero video lag. Call quality is better than even just using your phone with the beam forming mic. Plus they’re almost a Benjamin less. I had an issue with mine after a few months. I walked into my local Apple store and they apologized and brought me out a brand new sealed box of AirPods. The resale on Apple products is fantastic with high demand at near 80 Plus percent of what you paid. An easy upgrade formula for when gen 2 drops.

Yay on AirPods. I finally caved and picked up a pair last week....I love them! I own some pretty high end headphones from Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Bose, etc. I also picked up a pair of the BeatsX for the W1 chip. All of these are better in terms of sound isolation and sound quality than the AirPods, but I still find myself grabbing for the AirPods as my daily driver.

It's just the ease of use. All I have to do is open the case and pop them in. I find myself listening to music & podcasts a lot more throughout the day. Especially just doing chores around the house or walking the dogs. I love being able to take one out and having my music or podcast auto pause, then auto resume once I pop the bud back in. Additionally, it's great to be able to just switch over to using them on my other devices.

I never have to worry about the battery life as mine are constantly charged due to the case. Speaking of the case, it's one of the best features for me; really makes the AirPods portable.

Really happy with them and can't believe I held off for so long.

I purchased Beats X Bluetooth Wireless in-ear when they were first released and was very happy with the sound quality (Beats has amazing bass) and have used them ever since. Recently, however, I picked up the Air Pods because they appeared to offer a bit more freedom than Beats (the tether would constantly get caught in shirt collars and tug the earpiece out when I turned my head). I did think the Air Pods would fall out of my ear, but they haven't yet while running or bouncing around and purposefully trying to shake them out. They are also very light, so they feel like they could fall out, but the design keeps them in without bombarding my inner ear canal.

I am overall pleased with Air Pods but, in comparison to Beats there are some notable downsides: (1) Apple is not good with bass quality and the sound is often drowned out by street noise/traffic when outdoors (Beats felt like noise-cancelling quality); and (2) there is no ability (as far as I can tell yet) to control volume other than through the phone or, if you have an Apple Watch, through the Watch.

I own Multiple pairs of wireless headphones including the B&O E8's and AirPods.

Not as big a difference in audio quality as I was expecting between the two but for the moment I am using the E8's over the AirPods. Simple reason is that I feel uncomfortable using the AirPods in public due to masses of sound leakage and everybody being able to hear my music. I've almost stopped listening to music in public with the AirPods which is disappointing.

btw. I have not had any issues with audio dropouts etc on the E8's...so far anyway.

Btww. The AirPods are not perfect. They often take ages to connect and for me don't register taps very well. After 1 year of use daily, mainly as a hands free kit rather than for music, the battery life has dropped significantly to about 2-3 hours. The charging case also seems to lose charge faster than I would like meaning that the AirPods are not always fully charged when I take them out.

Completely agree..The lack of isolation is a major issue with the AirPods and often ignored in reviews. They sound great when everything is quiet but are pretty rubbish when there is background noise.
