Just use Software Update. I'm downloading it as I type, and haven't yet tried it.

"Airport Extreme Update 2007-001, version 1.0, size 7.4 MB"

I was this far away from emailing Steve himself.

:)

About AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001
This update is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and provides compatibility with AirPort Extreme base stations and networks.

Okay, then. Anything else?

No, it's not. You're incorrect.

He's right. Sorry for giving people the wrong idea. This isn't about getting N-ness on your Mac. It's about fixing a broken Airport that was bestowed upon us Intelers by the last official OS X update. :)

It's just an update the the AirPort Extreme base station.

I don't think you're right. If that's the case, why is an Intel Mac specified for the update, rather than PowerPC/Intel? I think the artwork is because they don't have any artwork on an internal Airport Extreme card.

Anyway, I'm now back on wireless, and so far my connection hasn't flaked out. This isn't proof that the good times are back, because the problem can sometime occur several hours later. But it's going well so far.

Yeah, I just realized that.

Lots of Intel Mac users have had connection problems since the 10.4.8 update. This update should fix them.

Apparently it's also worth browsing this article too:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482

Nope, it's hasn't helped. Although my iMac can now sustain a WPA connection across reboots, the weird connection timeouts have got even worse.

Your mileage may vary and I'm looking forward to seeing what other people find.

Back to cables...

I think I'm suffering this as well.

I posted elsewhere in this forum looking for help restoring my wireless connectivity on my iMac. I too installed the 10.4.8 update and have now loss my connection. My iMac can see the airport extreme but I just can't get to the internet...

Is there a fix, is there a way I can remove the update, is Apple going to fix this? I know, lots of questions.

I never had problems before, but either this update, or the latest security update has basically rendered my computer useless for wireless connectivity (EDIT: I should note that I'm using a MacBook -- found this thread through the forum search).

I thought it might be my router -- a mediocre D-Link, but it seems unlikely, given that the problems have only happened since the update...

EDIT2: I'm connected now, but clearly there's a problem with the software...until I restarted my machine, it was telling me my WPA password was wrong when I'd try to enter it manually. My other wireless device (a Nintendo Wii :) ) was the testbed that was connecting fine.

When a videogame console can connect, but a $1000 computer can't, it's sort of sad. While seemingly intermittent (I managed to use the laptop online the day of the download after one restart, which I forgave, and again recently before this latest incident), this sort of problem is incredibly frustrating, especially since I wasn't one of those users who had experienced problems earlier.

I can't connect to the internet (anymore either (I'm using wireless on a C2D Macbook). I've restarted several times, shut down for an hour and then started up, still nothing. I'm really frustrated, especially since the Apple technical support line is off now and I have to wait till tomorrow if I can't get this fixed today.

Anyone know how to undo the software update?

If you can see the base station, but cannot get to internet, your iMac is unlikely
to be the blame. Can your cable or DSL connection be having problems?

My Mac Book Pro C2D connects without any problems. In fact I'm typing and sending this using my MBP.

I installed to 10.4.8 update and the security updates to both machines so I'm really confused. If I reinstalled OS X on my iMac and started from scratch, then installed all the updates up to 10.4.8 do you think that would solve my problem. But I hate the thought of a re-installation.

I dont know if my recent notice is applicable, but ever since the update I have noted that my internet connection is off and on on my cable modem. It is steady on when doing nothing but as soon as I click on a link it starts to blink out. when I leave it for a moment is comes back on.

click something it goes back out. I am using the cable not wireless.

wife's PC is wireless and is fine. no blink outs when she uses it.

strange and may not have anything to do with anything.

Hmmm, this is happing to me. Driving me INSANE.

But i'm on a G4.

Have you tried this suggestion?

I also had this same problem with an iBook and fixed it by retyping my wireless network password in the Airport subpane of the Network system preference.

Archive and Install

I had the same problem with not being able to connect after the update. I ended up doing a reinstall, using archive and install, and everything is fine now.

There are a few other "fixes" floating around, with varying results, but the reinstall worked fine and everything is back to where it should be.
