Ok - to the OP. You've probably done this already either on your own or w/Apple but I ran across it inadvertently and my Link Speed is now 300mb

In your airport utility make sure that the radio mode is set to 802.11n only - that's what got my speed up.

I'd already done that - but thanks for the suggestion.

as I mentioned before the country in the setup seems to be also a big part. I configured it new with a different country than Germany (I took Italy) and now I´m able to get 300 MBit with the 5 GHz and 130 MBit with the 2.4 GHz. With the Germany setting also 5 GHz has been only 130 MBit.

Best regards - Christoph

You're a genius! This has sorted it. For whatever reason, the UK doesn't support the wider (faster) operation despite the post above to that effect. Even the 'genius' in the Apple store didn't suggest this!! Changed to Italy and now my network flies! :D :D :D :D :D

He wouldn't suggest it because your not suppose to do it. Not saying you shouldn't, just your not suppose to. :D

Props/kudos/plaudits (country specific all around :D) to the the OP and CVKaiser - w/o your post I wouldn't have even thought to check and would have just suffered in silence!

Where is the country setting anyway?

Actually no - he didn't suggest it because he simply didn't know. He was going to try connecting it up to the store network, but it turns out they're not changed over to 'N' yet either. At any rate he wouldn't have needed to suggest changing it 'illegally' - all he had to do was say 'The UK doesn't [yet] support the faster speed.'

Anyway it works - hurrah!

Load up Airport Utility, Manual Setup, Wireless, Wireless Options - find country at top.

Thanks - glad that it also works on your side. I already know that in Germany the Airport Extreme Basestation was suppose to run slower - they advertised it differently at the US and the german Apple page, and I was wondering how they would do it - and after I saw the country setting I thought that might be the problem.

I'm using an Airport Xtreme N router and I'm stuck at 130. Anyone using this router that might have some tips?

Just got off the phone with Dlink support. They say there's nothing they can do for me.

I got the Dlink because it has gigabit ethernet. Anyone know of another N router that has gigabit ethernet and works with a Mac?

I was just doing some transfer speed tests. iStat tells me I'm copying at 3.5 mb/s. Wouldn't that mean I'm actually getting a link speed of 300?

Edit - I realize that this is pretty elementary (and I'm sure you already ruled it out) but sometimes the solutions are easy to overlook :)

hhmm interesting program... what is it? or is that leopard beta??

If so, I wonder why it says my link speed is 130?

yea tahts really really wierd, if youve tried all the suggestions from other people im prety stumped. if uve got the right frequency and right channel it should be ok. the only thing i can think of is changing the frequency channel, i knnow that when i added my 2nd airport and made it a repeater it completely stufed my speed up and access times when thru the roof, literally!. so i change d the channel manually, experiment around heeps.

Well - after 2-3 days of N speeds I've found that the range when set to "N only" is diabolical. I've had to switch back to "N - b/g compatible" to restore my house wandering habits.

I tried moving the AEBS around my office to no avail (it's currently on some metal - Metro style - shelving and Apple specifically warns against this) - even out in the middle of the floor it's crap.

One other thing to note - the status light seems to have a completely random life of its own. It's currently flashing slow amber, earlier it was solid amber and just now before I switched to to b/g compatible - it was solid green. None of the different lights seem to affect what it's doing but it irritates my remaining ocd synapses.

Hi, I also have the Airport Extreme Gigabit version.

Im wondering what the best settings are to get the most range and speed out of my MBP + AE. Im the only one using it.

I currently have it set to 5Ghz N Only, and im in the UK.

I tried setting it to Italy but then I wouldn't allow me to connect  just refused to believe it was there at all. Changed it back to UK and everything is fine again.

So what settings should I have for max range and speed?

Cheers :)
