Thanks.

I'll be opening the computer up tomorrow to find that missing pin, and also will get some (more) microfiber cloths.

What did you use to label that picture? I'd like to be able to quickly make notations on pics.

Photoshop CS3.

I took it with Photo Booth, cropped it (so you'd only see the glass panel), made the canvas larger, added the lines, and added text. Didn't take too much time - maybe 5 minutes.

Anyway...

I just tried to open the computer and I realized that my smallest torx is too big. So I ordered a 30-pc torx set (starting at T3) from Amazon which should get here in a few days.

I'll post here as soon as I receive it and open it up.

Thanks,

Eddie

Tinkering while trying to fix it :)

Maybe my safest bet is to have Apple remove the dust themselves (that is, after I've glued the pins back on)?

Eddie

newkeyboard; If the reason you are wanting to take off the glass is to eliminate reflections you may want to take a look at the pictures in Tom Sawyer's excellent thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/350120/

Note the third picture down: "Glass pulled out: notice LCD itself is glossy"

You could try pulling the glass off and see how it works for but you might want to read THIS entire thread so that you don't break off pins too.

Eddie;

What exactly caused the pins to break off? tilting the glass? shifting it side to side? removal or reattachment of glass?

The pins are only at the top? There aren't any on the sides and bottom?

The more information you can supply will help others so they don'y make the same mistake.

There are some on the sides and the bottoms.

I'm going to guess it was me removing it wrong. One mistake I made was that, once I got the bottom magnets off, I was pulling it up (to get some dust), which can break pins off.

I received my torxes.

The glass panel is off and all of the screws are off, but I just cannot get the bezel off. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eddie

I got the bezel off (and the LCD).

While I was disassembling it I could hear something moving around. Now I'm not able to find it. I'll keep looking.

Eddie

I found the pin.

It's all put back together and normal now. Just got to glue it onto the panel.

Thanks,

Eddie

One of the pins does not seem to want to go back on, even with my superglue (the kind that says "Caution: will bond skin & eyes in seconds"). It seems to fit in there crooked and easily comes off when I try to put the panel back on.

At this point I suppose my only option is another glass panel. Does anyone know of a place to get one?

Eddie

if you just bought it how is it dusty inside? my family just bought a 20" AL (on it right now) and this thing was so sealed up in the box, i could tell it was made a while ago because i had to install leopard with the drop in DVD, so it cant just collect dust in the box

Most super-glues only bond same to same material (plastic to plastic etc). You are going to need something that bonds metal to glass. Try a rear-view mirror glue.

The glass panel has a VERY light aluminum at the top. The pins are also metal.

So my best option is the Apple Store right now, then? Could they sell me a panel and I can put it on myself?

Thanks,

Eddie

$60 for the glass. An extra $150 if I want them to install it (she said they use some kind of paper, gloves, rollers, and all that to prevent dust from getting in there. Shouldn't they use that in the factory?).

Eddie

I got an AASP to put a new glass panel on for $80 total ($70 for the glass + $10 for the installation). Still a nice big line of dust in it. I'm not risking anything this time; it's going over to the Apple Store and I'll have them remove the dust.
