All-day events are not "events" according to Apple. No wonder some people hate iPhone.

Proof that this behavior makes zero sense and should be changed

By definition, an all-day event is an event that lasts from 00:01 until 23:59.

1. Create an event and mark it as "All Day"
Result: it does not appear in "Today View"

2. Create and event and set duration to "from 00:01 until 23:59"
Result: it appears in "Today View"

How do you even explain this?

What's even more inconsistent is that if there is an all-day event scheduled for tomorrow, the "Tomorrow Summary" widget will say "One all-day event scheduled," but when tomorrow arrives, the calendar widget says "No Events."

There is a free app called "Events Widget" that you might want to try to replace the stock Tomorrow and Calendar widgets:

Why should you defend Apple for this? Just tell your friends, "Yeah, pretty dumb isn't it?" and move on. We should all be able to respect each other's choice of cell phone, after all...

But yes, it needs to be fixed. Until then, I hear Fantastical is a far better calendar app than Apple's built-in app will ever be.

While it's true there's plenty of silly quirks about both platforms, I'm still all for calling out the issues, especially when apparently the op has sent feedback for a while that's gone unaddressed.

I'm in a similar boat with Bluetooth car functionality that became frustratingly bad since ios9. I'm worried it'll also drop to the bottom of the importance pile behind the yearly charge to add more features that themselves will be rushed and buggy.

I too find this to be a bit awkward why Apple doesn't consider All Day Events as events. It really started to bother me when the Apple Watch came out and they wouldn't show on the complication. But, when watch OS 2 came out and Fantastical could build a complication, it fixed the problem for me. So I echo Tubamajuba in saying that Fantastical is much better. I prefer to use Apple's apps for a lot of things, but I find that some third-party developers can just do some things better.

Android stock calendar app is miles ahead. Sure some third party ones may have more features but Google Calendar is an incredible stock app.

Fantastical does display all day events as calendar events in it's NC widget. I get it that it's frustrating, but for less than $5 I fixed the issue on all the iPhones, iPads and Watches in my family. I simply choose to use third party apps for some things.

If people hate an entire phone and OS over one bug/bad design, they were bound to hate it anyway. Especially if it's something so small.

+1 for Events Widget, this does the job perfectly and is free.
Also if you are wanting a full Calendar App that does this try Calenders by Readle. The free version shows all day events in its widget.

I do the same thing.

Generally me scheduling an all day event is me being lazy. And events that are actually all day, such as me being on call for work, or vacations....well I don't forget those things so not being notified in NC isn't a problem.

If I have to do something over a certain week between certain times (ex mon-fri 8-5) Apple provides the means to set that versus me being lazy and scheduling 8am Monday until 5pm Friday.

I never understood why they've done this.

i'm going to do my part and put this through as feedback myself, as hopefully a variety of voices will help apple make it a bit more of a priority.

There are all ways of saying something. Just because I "prefer" IOS as my daily driver, doesn't mean I don't like other platforms; it's just that I've chosen IOS as my platform of choice. But some people deserve a fanboy-ish type of response, which maybe wasn't clear in my response.

Its a strange one from Apple but nothing that cant be overcome by using a free app to show things in the Notification Center rather than enabling the Apple widget to make it not really an issue.

I used to use Fantastical to get around it but now switched back to the main calendar app with the Events Widget app and works really well.

on osx, the exact same notification widget does show all day events. its 100% missing functionality.

Although I don't like it and have complained about it myself, I think it's the latter (i.e., design choice). I'm thinking that they did it like that because they didn't want the widget to simply be full of all day events and not show what are typically the more important (in the sense of being more time sensitive) timed events during the day--given that the widget would take up a lot of space for many events, for people who might have quite a few all day events along with timed events it would take up a lot of space showing those all day events during the whole day and more or less obstruct the timed ones from showing up in a more prominent position. Certainly doesn't mean that's the best way of going about it, or that I like it (which I don't), but seems like that might be part of the reasoning for Apple.
