How about reinstalling LR 5.3? Download here

I can't help feeling that if it was a Lightroom issue there would be a lot of other people reporting it. I can't find anyone else with Google.

Yea, I don't know what the deal is. I did a complete reformat of my hard drive and reinstalled OSX and DIDN'T do a Time Machine restore, I started fresh. The first thing I did was install software updates, then Lightroom. It worked!...until I started to reinstall other programs and putting some documents and stuff back in place. I then went to LR and to test it that it was still working and it wasn't. I hate to say this but I'm just going to give up. I can have LR work perfectly if I just keep the LR Catalog on my external HD, which is portable. I figure maybe its a sign. Its not like I would be able to keep thousands of RAW files on a small 256gb SSD in my MBP anyways.

Frustrating! I am out of ideas, and it has got to point where it is beyond helping remotely.

You've put a lot of time in. How about making one more pass at it?

Start over with the installs.

After each program you install, test LR.

After every document or whatever that you put in place, test LR.

That's an old and valid troubleshooting technique. But it's time-consuming.

If you already did your reinstalls like that, then I don't have any suggestions. But if you didn't, give it a try.

Or I suppose you could do it backwards, but that's not as clean: start uninstalling / moving off, and after each, test LR again.

Your right. I'll give it one more shot, its just very frustrating. It may take me a week or so but I'll report back.

Do you have the library lock filter on or off?
I'm not sure what the library lock filter is?

I did however fix/find a solution to my problem. After a complete reformat of my MacBook Pro and reinstallation of LR5 I got it all working. I purchased a external hard drive(a G-Drive from G-Technology) and have my LR catalogue and files all on the external. This sort of future proofs me for a while since I don't have to worry about the internal SSD of my MBP filling up. I am able to import photo's from my D610 without any problems.
I would like to thank all of you for all your help throughout this process!
