To those who use 3 MIFI ;)

1-When you get the device does it come with a 3 sim already installed .

2-How do you topup the credit , is it the exact same way as you would on a PAYG mobile ?

3- If you buy it for a month does it last exactly 1 month from point of purchase or to the end of the month you purchased it on.

4-Also with the sd card slot what does it do for you if you have a ipad ...or a laptop

5-How long does the battery last , and how quick is it to charge it

thanks dino26

Not a good idea to crosspost. I already answered it here https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/9873342/

:(

Got any sources for that? Or purely speculation? Can't think how it's breaking the terms.... and as it's pay-as-you-go if I went over "unlimited" (whatever the real hidden limit is) it'd just eat away at the £10 credit.

What I'm after is a purely pay-as-you-go topup option. I.E One where I put £10 of credit on it and then put more on when I've used it up.

Sources? Sounds like a spy drama. The 'source' is in the paperwork you get with the SIM card. I have one, I read it, I decided against it.

I'd be very cautious of that if I were you, read the small print that comes with the card, you could find yourself with a hefty bill and a disconnection.

This is absolutely right.

I recently used an O2 PAYG iPhone sim card (with 12 months unlimited internet access) in my Mi-Fi only to find myself disconnected within a few weeks.

O2 got wise to the use of their sims in the wrong equipment a while ago. Shame really.

Vodafone don't know whether they're coming or going.

Yesterday, presumably on the back of zero pre-orders for their SIMs, they suddenly changed their 5GB/£25 monthly tariff to "Unlimited" with a 5GB FUP (WTF?). Now, after barely a few hours, it's back to plain old 5GB.

Hmm, none of these seem any good.

Did I hear that only the O2 deal offers on-iPad activation?

out of intrest what sim are you using in your mifi and have you used it abroad yet?

thanks

Correct. Orange and Vodafone need you to call them.

Right. That alone inclines me toward O2.

Never had a problem with O2's 3G coverage with my iPhone so at least it'd be a known quantity. I'm a train driver, I get fairly long breaks at depots all over the place and I get a max signal at nearly all of 'em.

Hi

I already have mobile broadband with O2, will I be able to request a micro sim from them and use it in the iPad?

So long as you're watching for red lights not playing with your iPad...;)

I'm wondering what supplier has the best coverage on the Edinburgh-Glasgow line. From my experience, O2's is pretty crap. Although the train does go through several long tunnels and cuttings...

As if I'd do such a thing.....*cough*

Nah, in all seriousness, I'd never dream of it. I remember a fella getting sacked a few years ago because he'd actually set up a tv in the cab to watch Liverpool in the Champions League lol!

I'm using a pre-loaded Vodafone Sim that I bought on eBay. Works perfectly and supposedly it's one of those where the data doesn't expire within 30 days.

Here is a link to an identical item from the same seller:

I haven't used the Mi-Fi abroad yet.

No, they have specifically stated that you should not do this,

http://twitter.com/johnhowells/status/13717743914

If you tried it may work initially but O2 are getting better at spotting improper SIM/device pairings.

I was considering getting a simplicity SIM with an data bolt-on but if they are just gonna stop me using it I might not bother.

That's not the cheapest route. That'll cost you a minimum of £20 pcm for a 1 month rolling contract (Simplicity 20 for smart phones, 300 minutes, unlimited text and data) whereas you could get a Pay and Go SIM on the Text and Web tariff and get 300 texts (useless on the iPad) and unlimited data for £10 per month top-up and still have £10 credit each month (<http://freesim.o2.co.uk/CwvJ7Lxn>). Worth a shot I reckon :)

Both routes will almost certainly land you with a mini-SIM which you'll need to manually cut down to micro-SIM size. Tricky but not impossible.

I know! If you look I was one of the people who said that O2 are getting better at spotting and blocking improper device/SIM pairings. I was only making this suggestion because the poster I was replying to had said they had been contemplating a more expensive option than I had spotted. If you're going to try it then better to take the cheapest (and also least invasively information collecting, PAYG .v. Contract) route surely?
