That means Compressor uses the lower quality hardware encoder. You can do the same in HandBrake, set the encoder to "H.264 (Videotoolbox)" or "H.265 (Videotoolbox)".

Compressor probably uses the hardware decoder too, so could still be using less cpu.
 
i use compressor too..issue is that it works only with apple supported formats, thus avi, mkv etc is not recognised :(
 
Wow, zombie thread. I’m not sure that the performance issues of Handbrake on Intel cpus in 2019 is very relevant, today. Maybe we can let this thread go.

Intel Mac Pro Herę! Was able to do one perfect back up encoding of a DVD I own and then made the mistake of upgrading to latest Vs. of Handbrake and all of a sudden this started happening See below. Ive reinstalled a couple of times and tries ]d to get settings to default but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
