So per the title of this thread, do you have a viable alternative to suggest?
Viable alternative: Old version of EyeTV 3 running on an older Mac.

macOS Sierra works great and still has a supported Firefox ESR build which works with most streaming services. I just love not having a smart TV. The computer does much more than a smart TV.

Sadly, the built-in TVGuide for v.3 is dead (or was when they went offline in 2020, I never checked again) and TitanTV just blew up their great service with a very poor "upgrade,"—saved searches are gone, UI freezes a lot—but with a bit of manual searching I can still punt OTA programming into EyeTV 3.

I was ready to upgrade to EyeTV v.4 and kept waiting for a .1 update that would bring more parity with v.3, but when they never did, I doubled-down on spare, used, Mac minis that will run Sierra. No regrets. No online activation for the SW, and I can rebuild my EyeTV Macs, with very little SW load, easily from a Time Machine backup.
