I was at the Apple Store yesterday looking to buy the space grey. I'm not a huge fan of the sport band and asked about the classic buckle. The girl told me I couldn't because of the aluminum reacting with the stainless. Was I misinformed? I left without the watch for that reason

There is truth to this. It's called galvanic corrosion. Just google "aluminum stainless steel galvanic corrosion" and you can read all about it. Basically it's a reaction of two dissimilar metals in contact with each other. Add sweat/salt into the mix and it gets interesting.

Even if Apple has some sort of protective coating on the metals, the process of sliding the connectors on and off would wear it down eventually I would think.

Whether or not it's a potential issue for the watch, I don't know. If it takes several years to happen, then perhaps its not really an issue since these aren't "lifetime" type watches really.

Many. They all look great on the space gray sport-- even the white.

Galvanic corrosion is massively overstated in this forum. Yes, it is a real thing. But the reality is that it is highly unlikely to occur with our watches and bands. If the conditions are optimal, it can take years before the effects are noticed. Maybe there is someone where with subject matter expertise in the area to chime in and clarify; otherwise most of the comments are designed to generate unmerited fear.

I wear SGS with black leather loop. The leather loop is way more comfortable than the sport band.

I bought a silver aluminum 38mm Sport with the blue band eight weeks ago. I wear this vintage brown leather Clockwork Synergy band most of the time:

I also have a black leather loop knockoff (bought from Happycell on Amazon) that I wear quite often:

I also wear the blue sport band from time to time... usually when I know I will be getting really sweaty. I bike to work, so on hot and humid days I tend to wear the sport band.

You can read my reviews of both third party bands:

Today I added the (Product)RED band to my collection. Very pleased with it. I think I'll enjoy having a colourful option to mix things up a bit. I also want the new dark blue sport band and maybe the pale turquoise one.

I have a 38mm Silver. White Sport band and just picked up a Milanese Loop from Apple, last week. I like it. However, I can't help but wish that I picked up the SS AW. Whenever AW2 comes out, I'm going SS. Hoping the current bands will be compatible. Don't see why Apple would change the connectors.

View attachment 613929 I bought this on eBay comes with rist buckle and Hermes style rap around strap and was only £30

Not sure whether it's the same one, but I have the Hoco cuff in the tan/brown colour and the blue colour and really like them (both bought on Amazon, I think).

I also now have the sports straps in the dark blue and the pale turquoise. The dark blue sport strap is probably the one I wear most often but I wear them all fairly regularly (apart from the white sport strap my watch came with which I don't think I've worn since summer but which I think I'll wear a lot again once summer is back).

I haven't worn my white as much either lately, I think it's more of a "summer band." Same with my green and blue.

I am having the same thoughts. I almost switched to the SS when they were all on sale over the Christmas holidays. I was going to get more bands, but I want to wait and see if the AW2 will have the same size bands so they will still fit.

Loving my watch, and all the options they are giving us. I want to add the black and green bands. I have white, red, and Milanese Loop now.

I like the SS's look, but I don't know if I could do the extra price. It's just a lot to pay for a Watch IMO. Will see when the AW2 is released.

I initially thought I preferred the stainless steel but couldn't justify the cost for a first generation product but once I actually had the aluminium version I realised it was a better fit for me really. I don't need to be smart for work and the stainless steel looks a bit too corporate for my scruffy self. If the second generation watch is similar in looks I'm honestly not sure which I'd go for (possibly the stainless steel assuming I could switch between the two). My sport is still scratch free and looking good so I'm not regretting the lack of sapphire.
