Am I better off buying a Mac mini vs. an iMac?

My 2010 iMac is starting to go (partially glitches with Mavericks and now the machine itself ) and I've been considering a Mini for many of the reasons listed in this thread.

I am hoping my iMac will hold out until the Mac Mini refresh whenever that may be.

I appreciate everyone's usage and experiences. If I had to replace this immediately, I would buy the Mini even with nearly two year old tech inside.

if you want a smaller footprint on your desk a mini will also allow you to use a 16 or 17" monitor. i know that few people actually prefer smaller monitors (like me) but you just don't have that option with an imac.
