I'm keeping my 8. This is the last model you can use the smart battery case on and I bought extra smart battery cases as spares. To me, long battery life is most important.

It runs Android. I have privacy issues with Android so that is not an viable option for me.

I understand that. What I’m implying is that if you are going to splurge on an Apple product, at least get something with Face ID and a full screen. You will regret it if you get an 8.

My wife and I just upgraded from 6 pluses to the 8. We are also going to upgrade our children to the 8 from the 6s in the next couple of days.

I’m in a similar boat as the OP, having a 6s. I really could use a larger screen and was tempted to buy a 7 Plus last year. That would have satisfied my frugal heart, but the Plus seemed too large from my front pocket, usually chinos. The XR seems almost perfect, especially having the 128GB option. It’s a little smaller than the 6/7/8 Plus and has a larger display.

But if the size of the 8 works for you, then by all means get one and don’t look back. It’s an excellent phone that will last for several years.

After careful thought I have decided the most important spec for me is size. So it's the 8 for me. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

The iPhone 8 is a fantastic phone. I just traded mine for an 8+, partly because I wanted a Product Red phone.

I had an iPhone X and wasn’t sold on it. The XR is tempting but the 8+ beats it on the features I care about most.

So, no, you’re not crazy to get an 8. It’s great.

Two weeks ago I purchased a Product Red 8 and one week ago I traded in that one for an X.

I was upgrading my 5 and didn't see much difference in the user experience with the 8. I love, love, love the X though.

I bought iPhone 8 Red today for the missis, and last week I bought a second iPhone SE for myself. Now I have two SE's, one private, one for work.

We're not interested in Apple iSled King-size phones. A Phone has to be small, and 4.7" is the biggest we'd take.

So, now we're covered for the next 4-5 years. By 2020 Apple has relesed iPhone BoomBoX, a carry on your shoulder - phone. But at 2022 Apple will release 4.5" phones again, this time as a mega expensive collectible. If Android is still the only other option, then it'll be this iPhone Retro for me.

I upgraded from a 7 to an 8+ a couple of days ago. The XS was out of my price range, and the 8+has a better camera and screen resolution than the XR will have and $50 cheaper. Was a no brainer for me.

I am a happy owner of the iPhone 8 after selling my 2 months old iPhone X last week to get one. :)

That’s an interesting transition. Most do not go backwards in the sense of the iPhone 8. I’m assuming you really liked touch ID and the form factor, depending on the size of the 4.7 or 5.5.

That’s right. The Face ID is the only reason I downgraded. I tried to give myself two months to adapt but simply could not achieve the success rate that I expect in unlocking my personal phone. Touch ID works for me almost 100% of the time. There are many things I love about the X including the display and I am pretty used to the new gesture but I am tortured by the Face ID not being reliable enough for my usage. That said, I understand the Face ID for the new generation of iPhone X will be much better.

I did the same exact thing. Wanted the Product Red version of the 8+ so I traded in my iPhone X.

iPhone 8 is the last one of the old design. So it just feels old on hand. And you're not getting a big discount there because it's a rather new phone. If you care about the size, I don't think the X/XS/XR are that much bigger than a small 8? I feel that the X design is actually smaller in general size but very big in terms of screen. It's the best of both worlds. I strongly suggest you to wait for the XR.

Less than 0.2 inches difference in height and width. With big difference in screen size and screen quality. Interesting choice about "size" to me.

It’s a fantastic phone... i happily would have taken the 4.7” 8 when I dumped my 8+ but the xs has dual lens, and I love the standard perspective

It is really a pity that portrait mode is not enabled for iPhone 8. Though that can be achieved by a single lens phone like iPhone Xr. I am sure A11 is powerful enough for all the processing required to achieve that.

I went from a 3 yo 6s to an 8, because the notch is an abominable design and I can more comfortably one-hand that form factor, with the control center being reachable from the bottom without the need for the reachability nonsense.

The 8 is a blast to use.

Incorrect. Even the X is much bigger. It’s also the weight. So much heaviour.

As stated earlier, the X is only .2 inches longer and wider than the 6-8. In what universe is that much bigger? It's slightly larger. The Xr is moderately larger at less than .5 inches wider and longer. I'm not sure people care much about the weight difference when you're talking about a couple of ounces although maybe some do.
