It’s all about how many photos you are taking
How many 4K videos you take
How long you plan on having the phone

If you don’t use your camera excessively than 64 GB should be enough

If you use iCloud for your photos your good with 64 GB

You're not the only person who is fine with 64 GB or less storage. I'm only using about 34 GB.

I treat my phone like a ..... phone. What that means is that I don't store movies or music on it. Nor do I play games or store other crap that consumes a lot of space. Even social media apps consume a lot of space.

If you only use your phone to make calls, send messages, take photos, and navigation, then 64 GB should be plenty of space for every such user. I have over 2,000 photos on my phone. So unless you're absolutely addicted to photos or you take too many of them (where 1 or 2 would suffice), then you would not need more than 64 GB anytime soon.

Eventually, in a few years, when I accumulate more photos that take up more space (due to higher res), I may need more storage. But I always groom my photos. In my experience, people who are generally organized don't need a lot of storage. Let me give you an example. I travel abroad quite often with some of my friends. For every 100 photos they take, I'll take 20 similar ones and keep 10 best ones. They keep 100, never groom their phone, and of those 100, most are repetitive and downright unattractive. So they are always under the impression that they "need" 2 or 3 times as much space, where in reality, if they took a few minutes to organize their photos, they wouldn't be anywhere near that capacity.

Same goes for videos, which take considerably more space, especially at 4k. I'll usually delete the bad ones and even make montages of the best clips on certain trips. You may think that's a lot of work, but it's really not if you're consistent. I save hundreds of dollars every year over my friends because I'm always fine with the lowest capacity iPhones, whereas they have to spend hundreds more.

Since using the Google Photos app (far more advanced IMO) instead of Photos all of my pictures and videos are now 100% in the cloud, I’ve freed up all that space so 64GB is plenty.

Yes, the 64GB more than fits my needs. Many years ago I used to purchase the 16GB models so I learned very early how to deal with low storage.

I'm looking at my 8 Plus's storage and realize I've only taken up maybe 26GB of storage. I'm thinking of getting the XS today but might stick with 64GB. Does anyone else feel the same? I tend to stream most of my media.
I don't store music, don't store videos, don't have games on my phone and not a lot of photos. 64GB is more than enough.

I have a 64GB XS and i’m only using about 15GB. I wouldn’t call myself a light camera user either. I use iCloud Photo Library, stream all of my music with no locally stored playlists and have iMessage set to keep my conversations for 30 days only. I also regularly clear my Tumblr cache and sweep out WhatsApp attachments - that app in particular is horrendous for wasting storage.

I’ve only used 30GB of my 64GB 8+ but when you have 200+GB on an iCloud account you don’t need an iPhone with tons of storage unless you download films which I don’t.

XS Max 15.3GB used so why would I need anymore than 64GB? I travel lots and download 4-5 large playlists from Apple Music and never have any issues.

24 of 64 GB on my XS Max. I keep my music and photos local. I have never had the necessity to go up to a 256 phone.

Even if you don’t rely on the cloud, you can store a fair amount with 64GB.
I’m currently using about 62GB*

*Yes, I know that a 64GB device actually has a bit less than this available for use though.

There was a time here on MacRumors where I was pilloried for buying more than I needed. I'm the type of person who buys what I want and if it happens to meet my needs then that's great.

But that drives some people nuts it seems, because apparently it's not okay with them that I 'waste' my own money buying more than what is necessary.

I'm bringing that up because whether 64 is more or less than you need or just right, you should get what you want or are comfortable with. If that actually happens to align with what you do need then great.
This was me last year listening to the collective about having more storage space. I bought a 256gb 8+ and now I have barely made a dent in it, currently at 40gb. I certainly could have saved me some money by buying the lowest storage option at the time. Oh well!

Nah I’m on a 32GB iPhone right now and am fine. I’ll get a 64GB XR and will not know what to do with all that space haha. I have a 200GB iCloud plan (for now) which is more than enough for 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and 2 MBPros. I could see a 128GB iphone but see no need for a 256+GB for me.

Now. When it comes to storage space at work, that’s another story. Max those specs out lol.

23.3 GB used out of 64 here. I could take that down a gig or so if I were actually careful.

I’ve always gotten the base level storage in every iPhone I’ve bought.

64 GB is perfectly fine with me. I could still probably survive on 32 GB if I wanted to, I don’t have a lot of applications, nor am I an intensive media user either.

64GB with X and 64GB with Max. Still 41GB available. .99 a month for 50GB for iCloud to store important pics etc it’s a plus.

Had a 64Gb iPhone 8 and have that same capacity with my XS which is just fine for my usage.
