Cant you disable it if you dont like it?

I like it to an extent, its much easier to unlock and login to apps that support face ID without even moving your hand. The only thing I hate is that your face has to be at a certain angle with respect to the phone/tablet to unlock. Most of the time, my iPad, and iphone at work, are laying flat on a desk; it is annoying to pick up the device to be at a 30-45° angle to unlock it and place it back down.

Given the choice between face ID and touch ID, Id still prefer face ID

I just got an iPhone XS and started using Face ID. Although I like the feature, I have found it to be inconvenient at times.

If I move the phone, pick it up, or even look over at it it will unlock. I don't always want it to unlock. I have found myself sneaking up on it so it does not unlock. The first few times I picked up the phone, realized it was unlocked and unknowingly dialed a phone number.

At least with Touch ID you have complete control and can choose whether to unlock the phone or not. Otherwise great phone and features.

For me, I thought I would dislike Face ID over touch ID, but after getting both the iPhone XS and the iPad Pro 2018 I’ve learned to really like it. I disabled raise to wake to eliminate the FaceID to activate until I want it to

I’ve gone to the apple store and Best Buy a few times.. I would like to get a new iPad Pro or iphone but i really dont like Face ID. Any body else feel like this... I would say the iPhone X’s max is a great looking phone but that Face ID is a deal breaker for me... :(
I don’t have a device with Face ID, but I have a friend who does. He has an iPhone X and claims that Face ID is very convenient when Touch ID is acting up. There was also a time when he forgot his password, but he didn’t have to worry, as Face ID had him covered. ;)

Face ID feels perfect on the new iPad Pro. Just glance at it and swipe up. Thought it was awesome on XS Max but it feels even more natural here on iPad

I already like it on my X, but it is even better on the Pro. Faster and seems to work from every angle.

When unlocking the device i sometimes forget it is there.

OP - you are not alone. I will be keeping my SE iPhone unit it/me dies.

Face ID is a 'Bag of Hurt'

I would love to see a proximity detection system for tech stuff.

Might actually consider having an implant that ties to my stuff and locks out when I am not close/touching/using?

Double eye detection maybe (bit no pc)

Still the best system for me is to have nothing to hide on any mobile tech. But I can do that - hardly leave the house and forget my phone when I do ?

It's great on my iPhone, but I HATE it on my iPad Pro. I almost always use my iPad in landscape, so my left hand is over the Face ID camera.

First let me start by saying I own an iPhone XS Max and just picked up the new 12.9” iPad Pro. I love FaceID, and it is definitely much quicker now than before. Honestly, the thing keeping it from being as fast as Touch ID is the confirmation box that pops up with the check mark indicating Face ID was successful. What I mean is say I use Face ID to input a password. Well that password auto fills before that stupid check box animation finishes, and you have to wait for the animation to finish in order to tap anything. Even then, Face ID is still very fast.

FaceID on the iPad is PERFECT for the iPad. Just tap a key or touch the screen and Face ID has worke 100% of the time for me, even when I’m not directly in front.

My other thought is that you say you would like a new iPhone/iPad which leads me to believe that you haven’t actually had time to really use Face ID. That said, you sound as if you don’t like the idea of Face ID. Well a lot of people fell into this camp before iPhone X and many of them had their minds changed. If you really want to know what it’s like and you want a new iPhone/iPad then buy one and use it for a week or so. If you don’t like it then bring it back.

I love it, and really haven't thought about touchID. my only gripe is that i wish the angle was much better.

My wife and I have both face ID and touch ID devices.

To me, there's not much difference, but my wife vastly prefers the touch ID to the face ID.

The main reason is that the face ID tends to fail if she's really upset and crying, which makes her face just puffy enough the device can't recognize her. That makes her unable to use her face ID, and that in turns makes her even more upset. Accordingly, she says she doesn't like the idea of being in a serious emergency or in a really stressful situation, only to find that she can't unlock her device quickly.

It’s even more beneficial on the iPad due to the multi-orientation functionality.

Once iPhones have the same version of the True Depth system, it’ll make the experience even more user-friendly/seamless.

I'm really quite impressed with Face ID. Has worked very well for me. Touch ID worked okay for me, too, but I'd often have to redo my Touch ID in the winter when my fingerprint would seem to change slightly (drier skin?).

How are the privacy and safety implications of a 3d face scanner on your always online device built by a company that reportedly cooperates with the NSA not your first concerns? Most people don’t need to bother locking their device at all under these circumstances. To keep your personal things away from those around you even a two-digit password would suffice, and a face scanner seems peculiarly overkill.

It's a mathematical representation of your face, not a picture. The data does not leave the device.

Do you have attention detection disabled? Unless I look at my phone, it does not unlock. It will not unlock by simply seeing my face.
