Having had many 2 piece keyboards for my iPads in the past as well as the keyboard cover for my Surface I really do not like that style of the design. The single piece design of the current Magic Keyboard is flawless and unbeatable for my use. A single fluid motion to go from tablet to laptop and back again, and I can easily use it while it’s sitting my lap and has a smaller desk footprint than a 2 piece overall.

I do like the idea of the second piece having a kickstand and I do think I like that better than the current folios. I also with the Magic Keyboard got the new function keys. But I would much rather have the single piece design and I wouldn’t trade my Magic Keyboard for anything (except a better a single piece Magic Keyboard).

I found that the normal Keyboard Folio is the best compromise for my iPad Pro. I don’t really need the touchpad, and the keys are good enough. It’s way more portable as in lighter, and does a fair job at protecting my iPad. Price is reasonable too.

I didn’t have any keyboard for any of my iPads, but got interested when the Magic one launched. Went to Apple Store and compared, and immediately saw that the Folio is the one for me! Try it out…

I went from a 2017 IPP 10.5 with Folio to a M2 12.9 with MK. The latter makes it much more Laptop like, but, of course, it is much heavier. So it depends on your use case. If your IPP is primarily a travel companion and consumption device, I’d go with the Folio. Mine is used as a desktop in the office for video calls and email duty. Hence, I am happy with the MK.

Great analysis. I actually opted for the 11 inch M2 with MK as a travel companion device. I already schlep my work laptop when I travel, and wanted a “personal” device to take with me… with the capacity to do light laptop type activities.

I’m sure I’d love the 12.9 inch, but the extra weight of the device and keyboard were a dealbreaker for me. I’m a onebag traveler so am fanatical about device weight.

I currently use the SKF as I prefer its lighter weight and flexibility

These posts got me thinking during the past couple days about how much I enjoyed the Smart Keyboard with my 10.5” iPP. So much so that several keys were threadbare and the space bar fabric had a hole worn into it when I finally parted with the ASK Last Christmas.

Having changed my mind about upgrading this year from the 10.5” and being committed to using it until it dies, I ordered a new ASK from Amazon (they sell them directly and for 31% less, as of this post) and it’s being delivered today and I am honestly very excited!

I dislike the MKF style keyboard (don't like the Logitech version either) because it occupies too much space on my desk and is really unstable on my lap.

I have yet to traveled with the 12.9 and MK. It has the same weight as my work PC (13"). I hope I do not have to carry both, but given that MS Office is so lame on the iPad I probably need both. Maybe I will eventually get the folio as well and use that for business travel only. Time will tell...

Yeah. My thought was if I went with the 12.9 I’d have ditched the MK for something light like just a folio

That would be sweet! I love the function keys, larger trackpad, and detachable two-piece design of the Magic Keyboard Folio. Would be awesome to be able to detach the keyboard and keep the iPad propped up on an airplane tray table. The Logitech Combo Touch is too heavy IMO.
