Thanks for the responses. I’ll work it out if I have the time but it does emphasise the point that Shortcuts can hardly be seen as a major feature of IOS 12, since 99% of people won’t get it or won’t bother learning it.

Damn, thanks.

For my "Night Time" shortcut all I need is a way to turn off Keyboard Clicks and Lock Sound so I don't have to flip the mute side switch every night.

Silly idea- is there a way to use a third party app that can turn those two Sound features to 'off' and then create a Shortcut action to trigger that? Or is there no app out there that can turn those 'off'?

Thanks gwhiz....you have been extremely helpful.

Is there a simple command one can use to automate a Shortcut? Something that says "trigger Shortcut Wake Up Time at 7:45AM" which would then turn my backlight to 50%, volume to 100%, disable DND, enable Wi-Fi, etc? Or must all Shortcuts be triggered by a screen click?

You can trigger with Siri (custom command), a widget, a share sheet extension or a homepage link. No time based triggers yet.

I respectfully disagree. Apple has built a shortcuts library so people can share theirs for that very reason!

It’s a very powerful feature. Apple can’t really take the credit as it was an independent developer that produced it, but the shortcuts library makes it more accessible to the masses.

And give Apple credit for buying Workflow and allowing it the system access it has now.

I hope that Apple releases better documentation in the weeks and months to come. Would also like to see third party books/videos on it. They need to get this out there quickly before even the enthusiasts move away. It is powerful but not for everyone (on the creation side). Thinking maybe a Shortcuts Store may be helpful (the Gallery is old and needs more stuff).

Realistically, it's a power-user tool more than a feature of iOS12 itself. It's a separate app (that now requires iOS12), which the majority of iOS users will never even know about. If it was really a major feature meant for mass consumption, they would have auto-installed it with the update, like they did with the Measure app.

Agree. In some (all?) ways, its a development tool, like XCode. Just at the macro level, not line by line coding (hence, the term "macro"!)
