aplications was down on the right in snow leopard. Still find myself going there for it :)

Think you mean ctrl + arrow left or right :) yep thats fast too if your hands are on the keys at the time. If on trackpad swipe swipe flows better for me.

You're right. That's what I meant :)

I don't understand why people don't just hide their dock. Its more efficient to put it away so you can maximise vertical and horizontal space for your app windows :D

Fair enough! ;) There's not much logical reason to use the Dock I suppose – the tasks it makes quicker can all be done via other means – but perhaps it's a nostalgic comfort. I mostly use it to switch between apps, which is quicker than using the tab-switcher when you have 10+ apps open.

Funny how we are all different. To me moving the cursor to the dock and then onto an app is irritating because it's not one move. Move to dock/ line up on icon / hit button... And don't miss.
Swipe swipe is smoother for me even with 9 to swipe to. I manly work in the middle so it's only really 4 each way. The end ones are not used very often but enough to remain open. One desktop has 3 apps on. Safari has two safaris open/ so that requires a reveal but I generally only go to that one once a day so it's ok.
Like I said funny isn't it how we all like different ways :) what works for me may not work for you.

For those of you that were wondering what the 3D dock in Yosemite looks like...

I'm probably a minority but I actually prefer a flatter look.

I like hints of a 3D look to add useable depth to help distinguish elements. An example would be how a window over another cast a shadow. That helps me quickly identify what is in the foreground.

Thinking about it, it was kind of hokey (personal opinion). The only reason I don't not like it at all is because its the way it used to be and typically I resist change once I'm used to something like that.

I especially don't like the look of it above with those icons as pictured above.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference and I'm glad you guys have the option to change it back to the older way. After using my Mac for 20 minutes I forget the dock exist anyway.

I used to hide my dock until I started using remote access via the iPhone/iPad. The super slow refresh rate over cellular made it almost impossible to get the cursor to bottom of the screen to get the dock to unhide.
