Hi everybody.
I've a problem with AMD VEGA 56.

I have this configuration:

1) Macbook Pro 15 (late 2016) with High Sierra 10.13
2) Mantiz-02 connected via thunderbolt 3 port
3) AMD Radeon VEGA RX 56 (by Sapphire)
4) LG 38" widescreen 4k monitor connected with one of the 3 display port of the VEGA.
5) My SIP was enable;
For now I have NO SSD hard drive connected (I order a Samsung EVO 500GB to put inside the Mantiz for connect it direclty with VEGA)

My system read correctly MANTIZ and VEGA card.
But I have this problems:

1) With VEGA connected my monitor freeze very often (can move the mouse)
2) If I try to use Editing Application like DAVINCI RESOLVE, ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS, macOs goes in crash;
3) Also with the GAME (like Tomb Raider) it's impossibile to open then;
4) Also with YOUTUBE I have problems...

Somebody can explain me if I made something wrong?
Maybe I need to change the VEGA?

Thank you.

I think you should ask this question in an eGPU forum. Vega installed in a Mac Pro does not behave like you have described. Also note that MacOS does not yet officially support eGPU so it’s difficult to predict what the results will be at this time.

Might be a silly question, but I'll try anyway. I'm on 10.12.6, would it be possible to use the Vega drivers from HS so that it works in Sierra?
I'm not updating in the near future, but I'm considering the AMD cards available to us.

Is there a specific reason you have chosen to not update to HS yet? If you keep your drive formatted HFS+ it appears to perform similarly to Sierra in my experience.

The LuxMark score is a little better under Windows 10. 43rd highest score for single GPU. Not bad.

I always wait for new OSes to have reached maturity before I install as my Mac is a production machine - in other words it's my bread-earner. I would usually wait for the first rev 10.XX.1 before I put it on my home machine, and possibly 10.XX.2 for the mean Mac. Also, at the moment, my main software (Avid Media Composer) is not working with HS.
And on a more personal note, it feels like HS is even more locked and iOSed than its predecessor. But I've been feeling like this since 10.8.5, the last simple and fluffy-free Mac OS. :)

My question was more ouf of curiosity anyway because I know that having different drivers is already hacking the OS, therefore lowering stability. I'm interested in this GPU, especially as Apple will include it in the iMac Pro, so we can expect decent drivers. But at the same time, I always keep a dual-boot on my machines for legacy software (El Capitan works pretty good with FCP7) and it would be a pita to have to swap GPU just to reboot in an older OS.

With Pixlas mod?

May I know the MacOS driver quality at this moment?

Yes, with Pixlas mod. MacOS driver quality is very good in my experience. No graphical glitches for me with latest 10.13.1 beta. No panics either. There may still be problems with WebGL and hardware acceleration with Chrome (haven’t tested it lately), but since I’ve disabled that it doesn’t matter to me.

I noticed another glitch in MacOS. Preview crashes when trying to crop a photo.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully Apple will fix this kind of bug when the iMac Pro released.

I am still thinking if I can run a Vega 56 with the dual mini 6pin only.

In MacOS, I mainly use the GPU for FCPX. So that doesn’t really matter. The power draw is not high at all.

When gaming, I will be in Windows, I can limit the TDP, and downvolt etc via Wattman. So, I should able to easily run this card with only the dual 6pin.

Thank you for posting a result that's more relevant to 2019 users. That's a big increase from where they started in 2017 - is it fair to assume that all of this improvement has been achieved through driver optimisation over sequential macOS build releases..?
