thanks, i'm going to give alarmap a try!

why not? right now, i DO type an sms manually. do youhave direct deposit for your paycheck? why, when you can just go to the bank to make the deposit. we have iphones, so why not automate some activities.

lol i see where you going with that but come on a 3 word text vs direct deposit? most people text all day on their phones but why not this time?

i've been doing that for almost every day over the past year. if i can automate sending the same 3 word text everyday, why not?

i like this idea of running tasks when the iphone is in a particular location, even an cheap GPS has functionality where in you can setup to unlock the GPS if its in a particular location.

i guess but location services fail, the gps fails, the message might change slightly, like "have to stop and the store first" i guess laziness has a whole new meaning nowadays

call you dang wife if she means that much to you, stop leting a app communicate for you

also wouldnt this require the gps to be always running for it to know when you left that location? that would drain the battery, what about days your not coming home after work, what if it sent the dang SMS everytime you left the office for something else

It's not an app, but Verizon has a family locator feature on GPS enabled phones, similar to google latitude, that will send alerts that the OP has requested. Its a $9.99 monthly addition to your bill. I'm doubting you have Verizon because of your time reference in regards to the article you read, but it's useful info others might use.

Using templates to send the same text without typing each time is a feature that our popular app Group Text! (iTunes link in signature, more on the app on www.redbits.com) does since version 1.0.
It works with single recipient too and it has a lot of other nice features like sending your current location address and maps link.

A few users asked to automate the app to send a text at a specified time or when moving from the current position. This is something we may add in the next release.

But beware that :

1. every (regular AppStore) app can send a text only if the user taps on "Send" on the screen; it's not possible to send an automatic message without user confirmation.
2. using the GPS consumes a lot of battery.

imnearby.ca

Hey there,

I just created an app that does exactly that. Check out http://imnearby.ca

If you like it, let me know, and if you have any ideas on how I could enhance it, I'm also interested in hearing any ideas :)

Thanks all,

Trevor

Try this

I use an auto text to say goodnight to my mom. I dont always remember and with her getting old, it makes her feel good that her kids still think about her. Try AutoSMS for droid. Works pretty well.

What I have tried so far.

I first tried using IFTTT in combination with Life360. This did not work.

Next I tried LocationMinder - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/locationminder-location-based/id383031428?mt=8 - in combination with Google Voice. This did not work.

I tried the I'm Coming App. The developers let me know that a new version is suppose to show up on the App Store soon (May,2014) that will actually work.

I am now trying out WakePoint - https://itunes.apple.com/app/wakepoint-location-time-based/id640935275

I'll update this post if I have any success. Who knew this was so complicated.

Update

I'm sticking with WakePoint, it just works. I'm Coming was updated, it's still very buggy. I really don't feel like being a beta tester for yet another developer.

Glad I found something that works. Peace.

Doesn't Find My Friends do this now?

not a text, no, but if the other person has a geofence they will get a push message that you left your current location, HOWEVER, this damn thin NEVER works. I geofence my wife so I know when she's headed home, and right about the time we say hello as she walks through the door I get the push message that she has left work.

works perfectly for me, either leaving a place or arriving a place.

LMAO...wish I could rep you.

Seriously OP, stop being a lapdog and become a man. I mean what next, you gonna install a tracking device in your shoes?

Maybe his message to his wife is "I'm on my way now, Dinner better be on the table."

You can use IFTTT (If This Then That). It will allow you to hook-up SMS with location. Though, it will not send the SMS from your number, it will use its own phone number.

You may be able to do this with launch center pro
Indeed probably Launch Center Pro should be able to do this. I will also check it out if it's possible.

I'm using Launcher widget to send one of the few standard messages which I've created upfront and send via sms or WhatsApp when I leave the building. This is still some manual work (1. press specific sms or whatsapp icon with text I already created ages ago in launcher widget + press send).

I have it also but didn't take the time yet to look into this. I'm maybe switching to it if it's quick and handy.
