If Apple were to buy Bose just to market it well to sell it, couldn't they just make 'improvements' of their own and sell that? Most people can't really tell the difference between high quality and average quality speakers/headphones, and that's the market Apple targets. Anyone who's serious about audio quality will have their own speaker/headphone setup anyway which will be configured better for their personal taste than Apple could ever provide.

Bose is a dead company. Don't ever see this happening especially considering the Apple speaker product never gained any traction.

I have to say I've lived by that saying for a long time but, their noise canceling headphones are pretty sweet. If you want quality audio equipment today. Break out your CC and go for McIntosh. Otherwise you can move down from there.

2 year old thread bumped by a noob how joined this month. Spammer?

I can see where there's similarities in the business practices for both Apple and Bose - simplified design and aesthetic appeal at the expense of ultimate performance.

But there really aren't any synergies between the two companies - there's nothing that either company does that particularly benefits the other. One might argue Apple could include Bose branded speakers in MacBooks and iMacs, but frankly... I've heard Bose sound in my parents' Infiniti, I've heard Triports, I've heard Companions. Incorporating Bose branded speakers wouldn't really add any value in terms of sound quality. Additionally, if you haven't noticed, Apple's not fond of putting other brands' labeling on their machines.

Too bad Grado won't put out an iPod styled SR60...

Btw, I have a McIntosh amp (hooked up to a pair of B&W 804s speakers). Whoever mentioned McIntosh earlier... you're right, the sound is glorious - much fuller sounding then my Denon receiver. But (at least price wise) you can easily still go up from McIntosh... Ayre and Krell come to mind...
