For myself the Apple supplied TextEdit I use frequently for making notes etc.
If I am doing some coding I use a combo of
VS Code, TextMate, and Text Wrangler. With VS code being the bulk of the work, but use the other 2 for opening other files and or reference materials.

Oh lol, i guess this is one of those places. I must have upset someone by disagreeing with something.

No, this is just standard behavior for the Xenforo forum software. New members are "kept on a short leash" and a variety of things can trigger an automatic need for moderator approval. In this case, it appears that the link in your quote caused this. It often doesn't make much sense, but that's just the way the software works.

anyone of those apps mentioned here can do this? Talking about the color dot corresponding to the color hexacode

VS Code does something similar in HTML/CSS/Less/PHP mode, including a pop-up colour picker, but it is tied to the context sensitivity for those languages. I.e. it has to be a valid HTML/CSS colour definition. Hence:

I am also a big fan of Atom and use it for hours every day... writing code. I also like it for general text file editing. But it doesn't really sound like what the OP is looking for, I would not consider it "user friendly" and it's really oriented towards witing code.

Years ago I used an app called TextWrangler but (IIRC) it was a 32-bit app that I dumped when I switched to Catalina. Looks like it is now BBedit

Have never used BBedit, but you should probably check it out because I would say that TextWrangler was pretty similar to Notepad++
BBEdit has been one of the best, most full-featured text editors on the Mac for decades. TextWrangler was a free and simpler version of that by the same developer. Eventually TextWrangler became too much work to maintain and they dropped it suggesting people move over to BBEdit. I did and have been happy about it ever since. Every couple of years they bring out a new major version that requires a fee to upgrade. It is never very much and I’m glad to contribute a little to help keep excellent software available.

Comedy “just use Vim or emacs in the terminal” option.
Speaking of terminal, type sudo nano for text editor!

EDIT: Just type nano if you are "not in the sudoers file" or if you don't have admin permissions

EDIT #2: Ctrl + W = Find words

GNU nano is not a great solution, though.

As far as the way it is used, customized, and updated, and it's somewhat modular nature with installable packages I'd have to say TextMate is the closest to Notepad++ I've come across. BBedit is more polished, less customizable, and the second closest. When I was using these programs heavily I preferred TextMate, I liked that it was highly customizable, but now that I only have an occassional need I tend to go for BBedit as it's a bit more user friendly with less of a learning curve.

I change the font size and the background color of a text file on the default text reader on Mac (TextEdit) and save the file but when I open it later, it goes back to the default settings!

Can I change the font size and background color for all text files permanently?

Also, Can I open a few text files in different tabs like in Notepad++?
