Have a feeling Apple is going to be using the notch to brand all of their products in the future since the home button is becoming a thing of the past..

This highlights a problem I would have, were I to swap my LG G5 for an iPhone X; wouldn't it be annoying to have an image obscured, even fractionally, when viewed full screen? I wouldn't like an iPad with a notch that got in the way of the top of a comic page for instance. It's a design glitch. They should have gone for a slightly larger bezel at the top. Don't do this to the iPads!!!

Notch can be excluded while viewing videos full screen in landscape.

That's good. I don't like it though - it makes the phone asymmetrical!! Am I OCD?
No, it's not (necessarily) good IMO. Videos that are encoded for the native resolution of the display will then be scaled for playback. Granted, it isn't much considering the resolution of the device but it involves additional processing during playback. That processing is handled (or should be) by the GPU so hit to performance and/or battery life should be minimal.
I'd like to see some real world tests before I find the notch acceptable or not.

Do we know if the next iPads will use OLED? Because if not, we probably won’t have the notch.
I don’t mind having a little bit of bezel on the iPad because you need a place where your hand can hold it without actually touching the display.
We don’t know but Ming Chi Kuo has said he expects edgeless OLED iPads in 2018.
I’m just shivering thinking about the price.

I like it. But I've always hated buttons so I also liked the removal of the mute/lock switch, etc.

Been no rumours of OLED on iPad.

The fact that Force touch and no headphone jack have not come to iPad what makes people think everything from IPhone will move over?

They just updated the screen size this year he surprised if they changed much next year.

I might be a bit against the wind on the notch, but I like it. It just feels like I'm getting a overly large screen, and there's a little bit covering it up. I look at the real estate to the left and right of the notch as "free space".

So yes, I'd love to have an OLED iPad with a notch and FaceID.

They should remove the notch and put touch ID under the glass or something. This is not an acceptable solution by Apple.

How would you hold the thing without bezels?
I owned a Sharp Aquos Crystal Android smartphone that was bezel-less on 3 sides. (there was only a "chin" on the bottom that contained a camera)
It was crazy-cheap, $150 no-contract, and performed quite well for the 2 years that I used it. After 2-3 accidental touches during the first week or two, I didn't have a touch accidentally register for the remainder of those 2 years.

I can understand that. It's a personal/subjective thing. I just see it as a gimmick to trick the eye into thinking there's no top bezel. Wherever the front-facing camera is located, there will be a bezel.

I think on the next ipad could make the top and bottom bezels to match the size of the current 10.5" left and right ones. And with that bezel they can still put all of the camera and sensors without a notch
Since ios11 is how it is, the ipad home button became only the fingerprint sensor

I think this will inevitably come, but i see two things that could stand in the way of a mid-2018 launch:

1) The A12X needs to be ready by then and as good as expected: When having no bezels the iPad needs to be quite a bit lighter to still be comfortable to use. This is only possible with the efficiency gains of the A12X (by reducing the battery size).

2) If they decide to use the same Samsung panels, the cost would be enormous. On the other hand, Apple can not sell the iPad Pro 10.5 at 999$. I think the OLED iPad will be released, when LG (or another display manufacturer) has stepped up their OLED process and can provide cheaper panels than Samsung.

Even then, i think the OLED iPads will start at 799/999$.

This actually makes sense with the new gestures in iPhone X and iOS 11 multitasking on iPad. Swipe up and you get multitasking and control center (how it actually should be on iPhone X) swipe up a little and get the dock makes sense

I really hope there would be a better display technology than OLED. I have seen quite a lot of people using iPad to display still image for extended period of time, especially at events, which is a nightmare for OLED. Software anti-burn-in reduces image retention by some degree, but won't make OLED as resilient as LED.

I'd probably hate it less on an iPad because of how insignificant it looks compared to the screen size.

This is how I feel too. It's the larger screen real estate that makes it look better.
