Have a feeling Apple is going to be using the notch to brand all of their products in the future since the home button is becoming a thing of the past..

I have to say, that looks awesome!

If Apple insists on the notch and lack of symmetry in future products, I believe I will have to move to Google’s side of the court. iOS should be enough as Apple’s brand on any of their mobile devices. Instead of being focused on how to brand an edge to edge screen, they should be more worried about fixing iOS and its pile of coding issues making it better and better for real. I really do love Apple and my Apple devices at the moment, but I believe Tim Cook will not be sailing that ship to good ports with that sort of mentality. Where is the Apple that truly care about software and user experience rather than “hardware shapes and forms” to brand their devices? The notch is unacceptable and it destroys the user experience, enough said! I see that my current iPad Pro 10.5 will stay with me for a loooooooon ride :)

Considering pentile oled at current iPad pixel densities would look awful, I wonder how they will handle it, rgb oled at the same resolution, or a monsterous resolution to bump ppi into the 400s?

Probably the latter (PPI bump) which is long overdue anyway.

Personally I would prefer if they just went with a no-compromise OLED matrix like the Samsung Galaxy S2 had so long ago (Super AMOLED+).

If apple release this next year I’ll probably break a finger throwing my wallet at it

The notch is just wrong! No matter how Apple spins it.

Not interested!

I don’t understand this aversion to the notch. The choice is either have a solid bezel across the top or have an edge to edge screen with a notch in it.

Until the camera can go behind the display that will always be the choice

Won’t happen. iPads won’t get bezels that thin. There needs to be a way to hold them without fingers triggering screen events.

1) they already did it with a phone

2) this baffles me every time I hear it. I just tested with my iPad 10.5 to confirm and not a single orientation or position i hold my iPad in leads me to hold or touch the face of it. I'm not trying not to touch the face of it, it just isn't natural to hold it by the face.

1) phones can be help easily with a single hand and gripping the sides

2) the 10.5 has a bezel.

When I hold my iPad I only touch the side of the bezel and maybe a few millimetres of the front part of the bezel. I don't think holding an iPad with notch in the same way would interfere with the screen either?

Oh for Pete’s sake you will give up everything you invested in Apple for mere aesthetics? Give me a break. No you wouldn’t.

I have a lot invested into the Apple ecosystem, that is true. But as an Apple fan and admirer of the company’s philosophy under Steve Jobs, I cannot agree with that design decision and the only way I have to vote is with my wallet.

If those were the only two choices, personally I’d vote for the bezel across the top because I find the notch so distracting. The device should get out of the way of the content, not look like it’s trying to poke its head in. And the iPad screen is huge, it doesn’t need that extra minuscule sliver of real estae at the sacrifice of a clean line.

But those aren’t the only two options. Two other options would be making the areas next to the notch black save for status bar icons, which in my opinion would be the better option because it would at least hide the notch. The other option would be to make the thin bezel uniform all around. This would satisfy anyone who prefers symmetry, and it would help with gripping.

But personally I don’t want any of those options because I prefer decent-sized bezels. Inadvertent touch rejection isn’t completely reliable, and I don’t want to cover up content on the screen with my fingers anyway.
