Best to do this under sunlight. If not, under a bright lamp and tilt the iPhone face-up at 45%, you can see 3 (2mm diameter) small holes at your left hand side near the rectangle hole for your ear...make sure you wipe all the oil/smudges from your iPhone's face.

Are these iPhone 3GS prototypes for iPhone with video phone abilities? 3 holes! And we are the willing guinea pigs before that one come out to rule the world...

I ran the google search but can't find what are these...

Let me know whether you can see it on your iPhone as well...

Surely, I can't be the first person who notice this...

They are sensors

those are the ambi light sensor and prox sensor. ambi sensor adjusts the auto brightness of the phone if turned on and the prox sensor blanks the screen when u put the phone to ur ear during a call so a button isnt accidently pushed when on a call

It's kind of ridiculous people notice this stuff. I wouldn't have noticed it in a million years.

Could he be The One, who knows when MMS is coming out? When the Facebook app update will be in the App Store?

No, the nice AT&T Manager I had coffee with this morning is. :D
He said we'll have MMS as soon as we defeat the Machines.
Not sure what that means...
That red pill tasted kind of funny....

Oh, I'd bet a months' pay if you had an iPhone for a million years, you'd notice these sensor/holes someday.

Mike

I've had a 3G for almost a year now and I still wouldn't notice it...dust under the screen on the other hand, yes.

Whooooosh, right over my head.

I just heard that if you angle your iphone at a 15 degree angle (up - very important), begin the notes app and type in "jobs" (no quote) then tap the home button - enter the camera app - close the app - then (keeping the iphone level) rotate it 360 degrees

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS

You're right OP. You're not the first one to notice them.
Everyone else who notices them just has enough sense to either disregard them or research them hard enough to realize that they're sensors.

You can take off your tin foil hat now.
